So, i've decided to upgrade my raleigh m-80 a bit and wanted to change the front fork, currently i have on rock shox.
my friend told me he had some RSTs lying around that he could sell to me for $20, but is it worth it?, i was thinking about just dishing out the 100-150 and just getting some nice fox shocks.
Is the RST even an upgrade to the rock shox???

Get a marzocchi and acquire a boat anchor.

Thats an incredibly ignorant statement. Marzocchi makes some pretty light forks, and some pretty heavy ones, just like Manitou, Rockshox and Fox.

I know, I just don't like Marzocchi. Mainly due to dealing with their customer support. Remember I used to ride nothing but Marzocchi.
I'd like to know where to get hooked up with a Fox fork for 150 bones.

well, I work at a bike shop too, and there aren't any Fox forks for 150 bucks floating around.
Yeah, are you talking like, you slip your friend 150 and he will steal one for you?

Im pretty sure you arent able to get anything fox for 150...
I bought a Fox 32 Vanilla R and rode it for a little over a year. I liked it alot. Better than anything I'd had to date. After a year and a few months, I started thinking about getting a Talas 36. I sent my 32 Vanilla to PUSH and now I pretty much refuse to buy anything but a 32mm Fox. That's all that PUSH will service, but to me it's sooooooo worth it. (I heard that they may be servicing SRAM's 32mm forks soon, but no news about bigger tubes)
Maybe one day I'll go bigger, but I doubt that I'll do it until PUSH starts tuning them. I'm hooked. Obviously I'll go bigger if I build a FR rig, but for my AM needs...I'm set.
And no...you can't find Fox forks for $150.

Rock Shox's are really nice and Fox's are great (Alittle overpriced) but RST's are just junk... never in my life, unless i was riding a comfort bike, would i run an RST shock. -if you could get that Fox for $150 that what you need to get.

Each of those companies make a wide range of forks, ranging from near $200 to close to $1000. The more you spend, the more you get.
I'd look into getting that fox, first of all. If you can't, try to find something lightly used in your price range from Rockshox or Fox. RST, for the most part, makes crap. They do make a few nice forks, but they aren't in your price range.

can you show me the fox fork that is 'near $200'?
I seem to be missing that one
RST makes quite a range of forks - - most of which are rarely if ever seen in the States. Those RST take-offs at your friend has are probably low-grade entry-level ones that, sadly, are not even worth $20. They'd be pretty much on par with the Jett, low-grade Judy or whatever is on your M-80 already.
I won't dignify the other comments because, well, they just don't know any better ;)

I've got it right in front of me as well. If there were any on there for $150 I would have ordered ten of them by now. :D
*Of course can only order one per year but that's another story.

If you can get a fox for $150 and it is in decent shape then go for it. You won't be dissapointed.
