Road Cycling - I got a big head.

And any helmet I wear seems to sit on top of my head badly. I rode with a gentleman who's helmet fit nicely, I went to try it on and it didn't do a thing for me. (picture attached, credit to RainmanP).

Does anyone have obscure head fitting problems and have found a helmet that fits well?

Bell is producing a helmet this year that is called the Kinghead I believe. It is in their catalog but it is in the back - not pictured with the other helmets in the front layout section of the book - just a small pic in the back of the book. It is pretty cheap at around 30-40 dollars but it is not the prettiest helmet on the block. However Louis Garneau and Limar both stopped making their oversized helmets so the bell is about the only thing left.

A guy at a bike shop told me we have Bell heads or Giro heads, or any other helmet brand heads. I, apparently, have a Bell head. My hat size is 7 5/8 to 7 3/4, and I wear a Bell Ghisallo, which fits well.

What helmet does Raymond have on? Its sexy if i may say so! (nice jersey too) ;)

I have a big head also 7 5/8 and own a Bell Ghisallo it fits better than any helmet I have owned and it doesn't sit on my head my old ones made me look like that outer-space Character on the Flintstones. And with the Ghisallo I am not using the highest setting there is room to grow, so the smarter I get the bigger my head will be and my helmet will still fit :p right?

He has a Giro Pneumo.. Which I though kicked the llama's butt, however, I tried on the step lower and it didn't fit. My LBS didn't have one in large, but they said they fit exactly the same. I want one that fits just like his does. It would seem that mine leaves my head a little available to impact.

Gotta watch my hairline you know.

I am famous in my family for having a large head., I also have a Ghisallo, which fits perfectly. Tried on just about every other helmet I could find, including all the Giro models, and nothing fit as well.

In addition to the size of your head, it also depends on the shape. I have a fairly large head (I don't wear a hat so I couldn't tell you my size) and most of the size is from front to back (rather than side to side). I tried on a number of helmets including the Bell Ghisallo, Giro Pneumo, and Limar F107. The Limar F107 fit the best on my head. YMMV.

RacerX, You're right. It looks like Rainman's helmet is way too far back on his forehead.

Hmmm... in the telecom industry, the term "Bell-heads" is meant o be sort of derogatory. I guess I'm glad I'm a Giro-head. I agree that shape has a lot to do with it. Perhaps crafty placement of the pads and strap-bias (I know the Giros have independent front and rear strap adjustments) might better position the helmet.

No, he's fine. I want a helmet like his. I'm the guy with the helmet that doesn't fit around my head!

I have a large head the Bell Alchera fits better than any helmet I have ever tried. And it's a good looking helmet too!

I saw this guy who was in the First Union race in my hometown that had the biggest head I have ever seen. It looked like he had a teacup on his head! I compared his head to the other guys as they were waiting for the start,for comparison it looked like a watermelon mixed in with peas.

William, a friend of mine had the same difficulties. Eventually he bought a 'Mango' (I believe it is the model, rather than the brand), which fits and looks well.
