Hello, I'm the proud father of 9yr son who saw his first bmx race last fall. He wants to start racing next month. He has been mtn biking with me for the last 4 yrs on cheap bmx bikes and does very well. The only trouble is his father has no clue on bmx bikes, equipment, or training. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

ill let other people help you on the bike and equipment but idk if i would just start racing in a month without him ever even touching a decent bmx bike or even going to a race track and riding
How much is your price limit and how big is he?
A price limit of $500.00 on the bike. He is 4' 8"
You're gonna be able to get somthing sweet then.

An expert sized bike is probably what he needs. You should get him like a Redline Proline Expert. Or any Redline. They are really nice bikes. With $500 there are a lot of choices.
Definatley check out Redlines race completes, $500 will get you a great beginner race bike.
I'm not sure on what size he should get though, your best bet would be to check out the NBL or ABA websites for reccomendations as to the size of bike he should get.
Expat might be able to tell you roughly...
Woah. Did somebody just agree with me?
Probably, you're the racer here, not us.

True. I wonder how many people on here do race.
I thought about it last year, decided I have more fun just riding for the hell of it and I like street.

At the local track there are nights where you can go and just fool around and practice and stuff. It's pretty cool.
At the local track you can do that whenever there isn't a race on. It was actually just rebuilt to and it's supposed to be one of the best in Canada.
