Advocacy & Safety - A danger to myself and others

Today, I drove to work. No, that's not what made me dangerous.

I forgot that my daughter's little Mongoose was still in the trunk of the hatchback and I just took off without bothering to unload it.
When I got to the downtown parking area, I thought, "Dang, what if some goofball breaks out the back window of the hatchback just to steal that bike?

Hm...

I pulled it out and rode it about two blocks in to work, with no helmet, riding on the sidewalk.

I really think if I had seen myself doing that, I would have shouted, "Get on the street!"

I have a picture of you in my head riding a little girls pink bike with tassles on the ends of the bars and training wheels, with a little white wicker basket in the front.

Now that's arriving to work in style!

That must have been a funny sight! I ride on sidewalks in my city when the street has too many potholes, it is covered in glass or garbage and deemed too dangerous due to traffic. In my city, like most of North America, CARS ARE KING and the city planers are not interested in accommodating cyclists. Also, I don’t feel guilty about doing it, as most of the citizens in my city have forgotten how to walk and the sidewalks are not used. :)

Actually, I support you in what you did! That's because, for years, I've been arguing that we should combine "Ride Your Bike To Work Day" with "Take Your Daughter To Work Day."

This would give us, "Ride Your Daughter's Bike To Work Day." I can just see the gray suited businessmen on their candy-colored and streamer-laden contriptions riding up Wall Street even now ...

I was testing some potential commuting routes on my noon ride today and I pushed my Dahon up the hill from Evans to Mercer University Drive on Henderson. Where it leveled out, I got back on the bike and coasted to the traffic light.

Shame on me too.
