On my commute ride home yesterday, a Cadillac Escalade was approaching from the opposite direction with the left turn signal on intending to turn onto the side street that I was just about to pass on my right. The driver of the Caddy didn't feel like waiting for me to pass and made a quick turn cutting me off. It only mildly irritated me because I kind of saw it coming and avoided it no problem. As I pass by, I hear the sound of screeching tires and a crash. The Caddy had plowed right smack into a "Road Closed Local Traffic Only" sign in the center of the side street. I almost fell off my bike laughing so hard. If the driver had just taken a second to let me pass they would have clearly seen the sign in the street. Made my day! :D

Ouch. (he, he)

That is close to my fantasy of someone who tries to right hook me going too fast and winds up rolling their car, which bursts into flames. So far, I've only had screetching tires when drivers realized they were going to wind up having to turn too wide into oncoming traffic.

Had a similar thing happen to me a year ago but instead of a road sign, the left turner rear ended a parked car
on the narrow side street. Fun to watch.

My boss is on her 2nd Escalade. This one of course, needed 22" "dubs." Just the sight of them, this one in particular, gets under my skin.

Nice story there,
I had a caddy honk and buzz, alot of jams do this on Baseline.
There is always a traffic jam up ahead.
Sure enough about five min. latter he is sitting there in a line a cars.
I fly between lanes and flip him off.

How terrible, I dont know if I could handle that....

At my Fresno office, there is a lady who works in the suite next door that parks her shiny new taho in the 2 (two) (dos) (II), thats right, 2 spots closest to the door for our suite. we have complained but she says she is there early and has the right, besides, she says, the turn into the lot is too tight........I frequently drive to this office (heresy, I know) and this makes me so irritated! If you cant drive or park your m##f### vehicle, stay the %%% home....I want to cut along the line...with a 30" concrete saw ;)
well, I know its not an escalade, but with the rims and all, and tahoe badge...

end rant

Not to get off on a tangent...... but to get off on a tangent..... I have always thought a person should have to be able to parallel park anything they drive. If you can't parallel park it, you can't buy it.

That would get a lot of people out of SUV's. Sorry for the rant. Great story.

You should see some of the pll parking jobs around Redmond. My favourites to laugh at are the Excursions (or other giant SUV) pulled crooked backwards into a spot, with one tire up on the curb in back, and the front curbside tire jammed sideways into the curb.
The worst thing I've seen (parking related) was a GMC Denali crammed into a compact space. The owner of the car on the right (who couldn't get into his car because there was a non-compact crammed in on either side) was busy keying the phrase "NOT A F'ING COMPACT CAR" into the rear of the Denali.

I'd have pulled up to his window and given him a big ol' thumbs up and "That's some sweet drivin', Little E!"

Having a JAM cut you off and immediately run into something: Rich. Hanging around to throw a donut at them when they get out to inspect the damage: Priceless.:D

If there's someone being particularly obnoxious about it (and saying you have the "right" to two spots qualifies IMHO) then I've got a 12-year-old car that I don't mind getting dinged, and I figure I've got the "right" to park 1/2 inch away from their doors and crawl out through the windows.

Helmet cam time. :D

As for trucks parking jammed against the curb. Maybe they know they are big, and are giving as much room as possible to the other side. I drive a small truck, but i often back up till my rear tires hit, and have my fronts cranked till they touch the curb... I'm not big, but I wanna give as much room as possible to avoid dings/scrapes.

I agree about driving the vehicle you own. Anyone can park/drive the little corolla, cavalier, etc that the drivers ed school uses.

Well after making a bad choice to turn in front of you, maybe they made a better choice to crash into the sign to save your ass. The alternate could have been to stop suddenly right across your path.

That would have been worth stopping and taking a pic of with a cell phone camera. If for no other reason than to piss off the driver even more.

The whole of this thread, imho, can be surmised with the sentence "If you can't drive it, park it. If you can't park it, burn it."

Best way to instantly loose my respect:

Buy a Hummer or Escalade.

Do I need to search ESCALADE in BF? Have we all had an episode with one?
It was an Escalade that took me out a yr and a half ago... I swear I cringe when I see one, even when I'm driving.
And who is this NICK BURNS character? he seems to spend an awful lot of time posting in BF?

An Escalade cut me off last week. I slapped the side of her car as she missed me by a couple of inches... she stopped and got out yelling at me (with her 2 kids in the car). I asked her how she'd feel if I'd cut off HER KIDS in my car the way she did me. That shut her up, then she apologized for what she'd done.

I bet if you had hung around long enough the driver would have found a way to blame you for cutting you off and hitting the sign. Folks like that never do anything wrong. They probably think they poop butterflies too (yeah, I stole that line from Horton Hears a Who).
