Classic & Vintage - Peugeot px10 +-1970

Hello guys, I've notised most of you are from USA (I'm from Belgium so excuse me if I'm not so good in writing english) but I hope you can help me a little bit anyway..

Me and my father cleaned out an old garage of us and found some oldtimer 50cc motorcycles ...
and yes a dirty white peugeot-bicycle with lots of dust and grease on it, my father said asked me to throw it away but I didn't realy listen because I liked something about it and I also thought it was a pretty lightweight for something this old.. it had to be good quality!!!
After cleaning the bike up a little bit I did some research on the internet and saw the bicycle was really popular and that even Eddy Merckx (I hope you know our Belgian cycling hero) used the bicycle!

So because of all that I desided to renovate it completely like it was used to be in the seventies..

The problem is that the brakes and shifters are missing so I would like to know if I can still buy it somewhere...
I would also like to repaint the frame so I certainly will need the original decals if that's an option..

Wow! If its a true Peugeot px10 you have a really nice bike on your hands, the parts that are missing can be found on a lot of the classic bike sites, or even ebay, it may be a little hard to find them but you will, just have patience, I would paint the frame ONLY if it REALLY REALLY needed it, give it a really good cleaning first, being careful not to use anything that will harm the paint, then make the choice of repainting, a few scratches and scuffs in the paint is not a problem, Ive found that dirt and grease ussually does a great job of preserving the paint! :lol: you want to keep it as original as you can, please post pics of your find and we can tell you if it is a px10, Im not doubting you, just that when I started out I had a few Peugoets that I thought were PX 10s that ended up being everything but! If it is a genuine PX-10 in reasonably good condition, it is definitely worth quite a bit of money. Replacements for the missing components can be found, although the prices have been escalating of late.

I think Merckx rode a Peugeot for one season, if that, then he took Tom Simpson's advice and got a Masi built for himself and it was painted like a Peugeot. I should say Masis, as no pro only rode one bike, even back then.

If they were Masi, they must have paid the builder extra to put out remarkable copies of the real thing. When I look at photos of Simpson on his fateful 1967 ride, I can't see a thing that looks out of place on the bike. (edit: I went back and looked again, and the bike doesn't quite look right. Pigneon's-- 67 TDF victor-- bike is quite clearly a stock PX, as is the bike Merckx is riding in his 1966 Milan-San Remo victory. But Simpson's bike in the photos I have appears to lack the ditinctive Peugeot chroming, tho the equipment loadout is standard; brakes are clearly Mafac and crank Stronglight. I can't be sure one way or another).

Merckx has been quoted as saying he rode stock Peugeots during his time with the team, and even later riders like Theveneut used Peugeot produced bikes. This was a cause for some wonder in the press of the time.

Peugeot did open a workshop, attatched to their main factory, that produced team bikes and special orders, about 1974 (well after Merckx's run with the team). My research indicates team bikes were assembled in Paris by team mechanics.

I've seen several variations on the "Peugeot team didn't ride Peugeot bikes" myth on the internet; my favorite is that the riders were riding Campy equiped bikes made by Italian gnomes, with no French equipment. A simple look at contemporary race photos disproves that one; the bikes are obviously hung with Stonglight/Simplex/Mafac, unless the riders also hired Campy to turn out remarkable copies of the real thing.

Now, if we're looking for a classic lugged framed bike, some of us will wait a long time until we finally stumble on one for a low enough price. :D

Verily, I sayeth a PX10 circa 1972-3, though I am notest a expert.

I have one just like it. Picked it up at the local Goodwill for $9.99!

I saw it across the room and knew it was to be mine. As I got closer I noticed that the frame was too big for me. A moment of depression set in and then I realized it would be the perfect size for my wife! My wife has no appreciation for how cool of a road bike she has. I love the road feel of this bike. Now to find one in my size.

back in the 70ties. I'm missing many pieces but I may have a good chance to find some
in a dusty box at my grandfathers place. He has been a peugeot dealer fo more then 40
years but is retired since a year or 10. Now I hope he still has some parts I can use..
(my dad he thinks he has) My dad olsa told me he had a very beautifull old peugeot-bicycle
golden parts on it that have never been used.. But now I'm a bit more into-classic bicycles I
wanted to know which one it was so I did some research on the internet.. I found him, because
he said it was a replica from a good cyclist or something.. it had to be this one on the photo below..
so I asked my father and yesss, this is the one he said!!!
I want him!!! he's so cool...

Hello everyone , im new at the forum and im glad to join in. Can someone please tell me whats the diference between a pug px10 and uo8. The father of a friend gave me one but i dont know the model only that is a pug. Its not in a good shape and it has a lot of rusty parts. I will like to reapir it but the parts are really hard to find. Also it has 7 digits numbers on a small plate but no letters. Any advice ?

Hello everyone im new to this forum and glad to be here. The father of a friendo gave me a bike i found is a pug but it doesnt say any model did a search in the web and is similar to a py10 and uo8 but dont know witch one is. Also is a little bit rusty but i think it can be repear. Where do you think i could find some parts for it. It has and small plate at the botton with 7 numbers but no model. Any advice?

I'm sure the other guys on the forum would know if you would post some pictures of them.
Maybe I'll go to my grandfather this afternoon to see if he still has some parts for my px10.

Post the serial number. There are probably people here who can tell you the model from that. As for UO vs PY, a PY model is probably going to have Reynolds tubing for the frame and a cotterless crank, likely Stronglight.
