Chandler police are searching for a motorist who threw something at a bicyclist Sunday, causing the 44-year-old man to crash and suffer a broken leg, police said.

The incident occurred near Chandler Boulevard and McClintock Drive.

Police describe the driver as 40 years old, blond hair and stocky. He was driving a newer model white Toyota or Dodge SUV with Marcos de Niza High School stickers on the back windshield, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Chandler police at (480) 782-4130.

Note to self: stay out of Phoenix area.

Once In'N'Out opens up in Tucson, I can actually do that...

It sucks that these guys got attacked, but at least their injuries are minor (in comparision to paralysis or death).

I'm glad they're both presumably okay.

Wonder how their BB gun would stack up against the .38 +P 's I carry when I ride.

Yikes! Just when I was starting to use the roadbike again! Back to the recumbent it is, and maybe a layer of Kevlar over the carbon fiber seat would be in order as well! The Chandler Blvd one is right on my commute.

Although you have to love those guys that shoot a guy with a BB gun when they have Vodka, and Drugs in the car. I wonder what percentage of people in prison are comprised of total morons?

Ouch. What kind of sicko would fire a crossbow at somebody? Probably the same kind of guy that would walk around a school shooting people. If I lived in Tempe I would be worried about this one. Just when we got the Baseline killer locked up too.

I'll quite riding when they pry the handlebars from my cold dead hands. Either that or the paramedics arrive.

Still, seeing as there seems to be a few more incidents around here than normal it would be wise to keep our eyes open. Not saying stop riding, just be careful out there.

Officials declare war on littering in Valley campaign
A recent Maricopa Association of Governments survey showed 42 percent of residents throw items out of vehicles — and nearly 30 percent of those don’t even consider it littering, said Brock, R-District 1 of Tempe, Chandler and Queen Creek.

I dunno, but the manslaughter charge you would face would stack up nicely with theirs i am sure if you were stupid enough to use them on someone and killed them. It aint self defence if you can back away from the confrontation (in other words, if they shot at you with a bb gun from a car that wsa moving and you shot back, it aint self defence.)

that's not quite right. if they're in a car he doesn't know that he can get away from them. they can, after all, easily outrun him and catch up to him. plus, bb guns can be leathal. many can easily penitrate the skull. they could also just shoot him from a distance. how is he, with complete certainty, to get away from such people? it may be safer to just pull the gun and have them back down than to run and risk getting shot at, and perhaps killed.

Well BB guns are silent first so you would in the slpit second need to identify where it came from.

I am guessing your gun would be useless. Only if they stopped or slowed down and taunted you.
Becuase it could come from anywhere and you can't just start shooting the whole street up.

More or less the point I am trying to make. Guns in the hands of the general public are rarely the solution to a confrontation.
