"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Unreasonable wattage increases...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Is it realistic to think that I could have increased my wattage at FTP by 15% from last August? I didn't race preceding August, and my riding didn't include the interval, or long tempo, rides that it has since.
*edit*
The reason I bring this up is that I'm going in for a follow up lactate test tomorrow.

Sure it is. If you're a beginner rider, significant increases in FTP can be expected.
Not really a beginning rider, but a beginning racer. More importantly, this was the first year that I've had a structured plan. What's too much to expect? 20%? 25?

I started riding in July 2005 and I increased my FTP by 15% from November 05 to May 06, so I'd say yes.

If you've never really trained to raise your threshold, I wouldn't be surprised. I mean, it's 8 months.
Word. I've been doing fantasy W to KG calculations, and a 15% increase, along with a little weight loss, is what I need for 4 w/kg. Silly, I know.

Not really. I'm in my first year of serious training, and second year of racing, and I'm bumping up on 4.2 w/kg. You'd be surprised how fast things can move when you start to do sustained, hard intervals.
Mine went up qute a bit when I first started training seriously (relatively). However, in the past six or eight months it has only gone up a few watts. I am able to hold it longer and I am getting stronger in other aspects, just not so much as far as threshold is concerned.

The fact that Pizza Man increased his FTP by 15% should tell you it's NOT NORMAL because he's not a normal racer.
