Attention swissys, sissies, and, missies! The Battenkill-Roubaix is coming in T minus 10 days. Whom among us will be engaging in this rollicking race of rolling fisticuffs?
Me? Oh yeah, I'll be there. The cat3 field will be crushed between my masticating thighs of doom and gloom. The others shall be poisoned by the smell of burning lycra as my quads grind back and forth upon each other.
Fact: The Cat3 pace car is a Lotus Elise, as its one of the few cars that can keep up with me when I crest hills.
Fact: all the dirt roads we'll be riding on were actually paved until I casually thundered over them and pulverized the asphault.
Fact: DrWJODonnell wont be showing up because he heard my thighs were gonna be there. YOU CANT AVOID ME FOREVER! :D

what tires are best for this race?
Since cat 4 was closed I registered for men 30+ (cat 1-4) which should be more challenging ?

I used 23C s-Mondo pros last year with no issues. I'd think most 23c tires would be fine
What a friggin' cool event.
But I'll be going around and around and around and around in Central Park.
Maybe next year, though.
Oh I'll be there. All the way up from Brooklyn baby. Lucky enough to grab a spot in the 4's before they closed up (in like 25 mins.)

ohh uh..woh was I sayin?
I've been off my bike for 2 weeks, and I've got 4 days of riding to get into shape. Its okay though. I figure that'll just make it fair on the 3 field :D
Be gentle, great one :o
are they calling every race in the US with unpaved roads the XXXX-Roubaix these days?
sorry to break it to the promoters, but dirt roads are not pavé.

But this one includes a long ferry section to France.

ok, didn't know that. makes sense now. ;)
Oh you just wait, Botto. In 50 years all of the grand tours, stage races, and spring classics in Europe will have the word MUP in them paying homage to the great urban circuit races of the US.

I think that's about it. Good marketing though. "Webster Roubaix" is going to draw a lot more interest than the "Webster Circuit Race"
And while Ithink most folks understand most of these races don't have pave, the analogy gives you some idea of what the course is going to be like.
It is going to get a little shop worn pretty fast at this rate though.

Because when one says "Hell of the North", the first thing that comes to mind is...Central Florida.

To beat a dead horse:
I was thinking on my ride today (which did, in fact, take me over some cobbles), that they should call that race the 'Mild Inconvenience of the Subtropical South'

How about 'The Recent Unpleasentness" oops that's already been used.

Fact: a Lotus pace car gives you a 50% chance of pace car mechanical failure during any given race.
Fact: Dr. WJO won't be there because he'll be in Japan or some damn exotic locale on business, thereby also missing the opportunity to humiliate yours truly even further at the High Point TT in early May.
(At least that's what I've heard). He's not afraid of anybody, not even KP.
Fact: You're all still faster than me. On the other hand my stopwatch does tell me I'm getting faster. But this is a relative condition. A faster snail is still a snail my little jackrabbit friends.

Fact: Due to my recent crash diet I've lost 10lbs. Today I went out for the first time in 2 weeks, and found out that I'm climbing like a man posessed.

You don't have to have a team to ride. I know a couple guys that are from private colleges I have never heard of and race.
You should try to race for a satellite college of Suny. I know Cortland has a decent size team.

You should transfer to UCONN - they have a little bit of a team, and this way I can draft you on some rides :D. The upside is their team kit is pretty cool.
You'd probably like the terrain in the surrounding area. Oh, and there's tons of hotties on campus. I think that most females are required to submit a picture with their application.

Interesting...so this means that, in theory, I should be able to ride in the ECCC Vassar race taking place in New Paltz...?

I'm not sure, you may have to get a club liscense for your school ($50.00 but the first year is free)... not sure how it would work since you the only rider.
It would be worth it to contact the ECCC chairman and see if you could just show up with your school id, school liscense and try to race.

Yup, I'll be at Battenkill-Whatever we're callin' it here. I'm in the CAT 5 field - just started racing at the end of last year and this is my first race of this year. Great one to start on.

Weather is supposed to be crappy up there now. Should be interesting. I want pictures of NICK so that I can see who will be bringing suffering. With KP off of form I need to spank SOMEONE.
In other news, the 40k TT that I was going to win the following day (modest eh?) has been cancelled. Reschedule looks conveniently to be when I am out of the country to give other people a fighting chance. :)
KP, no excuses, I want you to be there on the last climb so that when I turn and give you "the look" and dial it up to 400watts, I see your quads give one final twitch before they admit defeat. Then just cover your ears because the sonic boom I leave in my wake can cause permanent damage. :)
I am SO in trouble in this race!

Unfortuetly I do not have a pic of Nick, Jeff or Patrick but they will all be in the Cat 3 race. I will however give them your pic I got off your website so they can have a target. I figure that a three on one makes it fair...;)

haha, oh man. I was in chase1 behind the 4 leaders until the last climb. There were 3 of us working in that chase for the majority of the race, the 4 ahead of us got away because our pacecar forgot to make a turn and I guess they were in the back of the peleton at the time
Anyway, one of the two other guys is just stomping up this climb, and I'm hanging with him alright. At the top though, he keeps hammering it downhill too! I couldn't keep with him, partially because I wasn't confident in my handling skills yet, partially because he was just so damn strong. I wound up beating the other guy in the final sprint and took 6th.
I'll do my best to be there with ya, doc. Hell, I might even toy with ya on the first real climb of the day (after the opening loop)
Should be really, really interesting if the roads are going to be mud. eep...
