We have all heard them, and while some people choose to listen to them some people just cant. Whether or not it is personal reasons or just because the song is depressing we choose not to. What songs do you find depressing and have trouble listening to? And do you feel music has a fairly large role in your life?

For me it's gotta be:

Hurt-The Johnny Cash version is the most depressing version, especially if you watch the video with him and his wife. Just to see him still plucking away and hitting the key on that piano just, well, hurts. The Trent Renzor version is also pretty depressing, with the images of war and death. I have trouble listening to them for whatever reason.

Mad Mad World-Tears for Fears, another song thats just kinda depressing the way they play on the sad, repetitiveness of life and society.

Comfortably Numb-Pink Floyd. I am a huge Floyd fan, but I still have trouble with this song, one reason is kinda personal but the other is just because of what the entire thing means.

For me, I find music has a pretty big part of my moods. When I listen to my metal (Huge Marilyn Manson fan, also enjoy Slipknot and other similar bands) I just want to get out and do things, whether it's ride, work out or just work. When I listen to easy stuff (eg: Californication is a song I like to sit and chill to, or pretty much any song by The Who) I just wanna sit and relax, or just chill in the garage and do a few things on my bikes.

This is a fascinating question. I don't really listen to anything I find depressing, as I find it tends to increase any depression I may have.

On the other hand, I grew up listening to classical music (my father's favourite music), and a great deal of it was actually something that one might listen to in church--masses/requiems, that sort of thing.

When my father died, I listened to that music for hours on end. It actually made me feel better.

Odd. I do like listening to music, but I actually listen to music--it's never just a background noise to me. I have to really concentrate on the sound. Perhaps it's the way I was raised. I learned to play violin (briefly) and clarinet. My husband does not 'hear' music the same way I do. He can't take the notes apart or the sound apart and listen to just one instrument or voice, nor can he hear the way the chords come together and blend. He doesn't really enjoy music for that reason.

I kinda agree yo.

Lucero isn't all depressing. Download "Anjalee" or "Tears don't matter much" they are upbeat and happy.

Depressing music?

Tibetan Funeral Music; sounds like bass, warped Alpenhorns

"Deteriorata"

"DOA" by BloodRock. Actually banned by the FCC because of the sound of the ambulance siren on the soundtrack was causing accidents.

I really don't listen to depressing music, but if I had to say something, some of the songs from Funeral For A Friend.

Speaking of Pink Floyd... The Wall is amazing. Could be the best album ever, at least one of the best.

Indeed, it's what got me hooked on Floyd in the first place. Go to Youtube and check out some of the video's.
