Are you allowed to advertise an Tandem specific item in the tandem forum or must you do it in the "for sale" area.
I don't want to breach any rules.

I suggest you buy a banner ad from Bike Forums to promote your services. Also, email a mod and they can give you the rules.
Try www.tandemmag.com (http://www.tandemmag.com) There is a For Sale section there. We bought our tandem from someone advertising on the site. It is still active.
I just have a fork and few goodies, is that ok?
You all know I sell tandems:D Will the add at the top of this page convince you all to buy something?:roflmao:

Don't know but it will put the promotion where it should be.:D You never know...one of the racer boys from the racing forum may spring for one of your beauties. Pitch them the geared rear hub. They will surely go for it.;)
Koffee Brown, not much seen on the forums for past 6mo, came down pretty hard
on sales pitches in the recumbent forum, making it a sticky FWIW. Depends
on the moderators I guess.
Here's my take....
First of all, "What Ad?" As a subscriber (red star) I am thankfully spared the ads, thus I would never see nor be reminded of your products and services.
Secondly, I have attempted to quantify the number of tandem owners here on bikeforums.net via a few carefully constructed polls and I believe they number under 100; that's a pretty small audience compared to my former haunt, Tandem@Hobbes, where in any given month over 300 different people will usually post to a reader / audience of nearly 2,000 subscribers. Looked at another way, the tandem sub-forum containes less than 1% (.81%) of all threads and less than .5% (.47%) of all postings made to the bikeforums.net. So, not much bang for your buck, at least for a tandem-specific audience.
Thirdly, I believe if you carefully construct your offerings, e.g., Anyone need a carbon for for their tandem? and then preface your post with a disclaimer as to why it's posted to the tandem forum, you'd probably be OK: again, the numbers substantiate the misinscule audience at the classified ads who might be interested in a tandem-specific offering.
Finally, I believe Koffee Brown's bikeforum.net presence was vaporized some time back, i.e., even her postings are gone from the archives. The current moderators seem to be quite reasonable and responsive and will likely accommodate reasonable postings such as the ones you describe that have a limited audience.
