my 'new bike' is 4+ years old now. i put a new cateye astrale on it the day i had it assembled. i am at 12200 miles now and it is still going. i knowit has the auto save battery feature, but .... i am buying a back-up now (performance has the old model cateye cordless on sale for 39.99) because i want to go cordless.
i like knowing the milage on my frameset and components.
Someone told me before I got the Cateye Cordless that the sending unit chewed batteries up fast; but that didn't deter me. About 3 months after I bought the unit the sending battery was dead! I thought well I better pack a spare in the saddle from now on, but that was 2 years ago and the replacement battery is still going and the spare is still in the bag. The computer battery itself has never been replaced; the mileage travelled so far is about 9,509 miles. By the way this computer took a surprise rain storm without a problem.

maybe the battery was 'burning' its life up on the shelf.
