Each year there is a mountain ride in California called the Death Ride. http://www.deathride.com/info/ 125 miles, with 15,000 feet of climbing, in the Sierras south of Lake Tahoe.

One year a guy rode it on a tandem with a skeleton as a stoker. I have not done the ride, but from those who have, it is very tough, and it is hard to imagine it on a tandem with a live stoker versus a skeleton. I thought you would find the pic interesting.
