Alright, lovely SoCal folks - sharing this with you first before I post elsewhere - build is finally complete!!

I've wanted a CF bike for awhile now, and decided to do a build so I could pick/choose the parts I wanted as I'll probably be riding this one for awhile. Wasn't quite ready to spring for one during the PF group buy so missed out on that one. But the itching to get started earlier this year got to me. However, being on a limited budget made it a few months' work/scavenging in process, but I am glad it's done. It's a fun, fast bike to ride, and I'm sure it'll keep me happy . . . at least for a little while. :o

Specs:

Frameset: 2006 Specialized S-Works Tarmac
Groupset: 2007 Campagnolo mix
Crank: Veloce Ultra Torque CT, 50/34, 172.5mm arms
F/R Derailleurs: Centaur
Shifters: Centaur
Brakes: Veloce Skeleton brakes
Cassette: Centaur 11-25
Chain: Record Ultra Narrow
Bars: Specialized Pro Road
Stem: Specialized S-works 110mm
Wheels: Fulcrum Racing 5 Evolution
Tires: Continental Gatorskin
Cages: Specialized Rib Cage Pro
Saddle: Specialized Toupe Team
Tape: Specialized S-Wrap with Bar Phat
Pedals: Look Keo Sprint

Special thanks to GVHbikes.com for the excellent service on the groupset, Stan's Bikes in Monrovia for answering questions, getting the wheels, and assembling it for me. Also, can't forget to mention good SoCal folks like voltman that endured back and forth PMing as I was on the fence about several decisions.

Here are a few quick snaps to fufill the photos prerequisite for starting a thread like this. I was too excited to ride it some this morning and didn't have the patience to take more. Proper pics to come - I promise.

Luwin, aside from the fantastic job you did on your Tarmac, that is a very nice garage door. It is a garage door, no?
Are you riding this bike tomorrow? :)

+ 1 on the red bar tape. With the black hoods it would look nice with your black and red seat. Something to look at when the tape you have now wears out.

Sweet looking ride - go out and pedal!

Nice build! I've been riding Specialized since 1998 and I am a huge fan. I just bought an S-WORKS Roubaix last saturday and I absolutely love it. The '04 Roubaix that I replaced was a great bike too but it can never compare with the feel and handling of full carbon. My new ride is also red and black and I too am thinking about the red KEO pedals. How do you like them so far?

Nope... I've got enough ideas already ;) My main idea is to have Luwin work his photographic magic on my bike sometime when I'm down there!!!

I can't believe how beautiful Luwin's bike turned out! YOU'RE the one who needs the new bike Mister :p

Nice bike Luwin!:D

That is a pretty sweet looking bike.

Don't worry Mr. Beanz, I can pretty much guarantee that my haggard lookin' Specialized is probably quite a bit crappier than your bike. One of these days I'll show up to a BF ride so you can all feel better about your bikes. ;)

I ride a '98 Specialized Allez comp with quite a few hard training miles on it. Doesn't even have any upgrades. All original equipment (Ultegra 9spd., Mavic CXP 33s) except for the seat and consumable parts (tires, chain, cassette, chainrings, brake pads, etc.).

When it all comes down to it, it's not the bike. It's the engine, right?

Hi Luwin,

It looks great and I can't complain about your component choices. ;) Now you can post on the campyonly web site. :)

I agree with Dave. Next time you need to change the handlebar tape try red. I think that it will look good.

BTW, your basic setup look good too.

yes, but if he uses the red bartape, the red on the ends of the handlebars won't stand out and those are pretty cool :p

^^^do you still have that thing?

I do. It's still too big and in my garage.

Although it is fun to putz around the neighborhood on it. I suppose it's rather "French fit" and upright.

Chucklehead
04-06-07, 09:55 PM
what size is it?

voltman
04-06-07, 10:00 PM
54, with a 54.8 top tube and 100 stem. It's been flipped and dropped one spacer since that pic. My Fuji is a 52 with 52.9 top tube and 110 stem.

On paper, that bike should be too big for someone 5'6", right?

Thanks for the positive feedback, guys - really appreciate it.

roadfix - that is indeed a garage door, albeit not mine. It belongs to a warehouse/shop located right near downtown Monrovia - thought it provided a nice backdrop as I drove by looking for a place to snap a few pics. There is a good 3" ledge that leads up to it, and I feared that the door would suddenly open, causing the bike to come crashing down, so I rushed a few and took the bike down.

voltman - computer is Cateye Micro Wireless mounted on the FSA control center

Snapped a few more indoor shots - updated in first post. It's a fun, responsive bike - can't wait to put some more seat time in.

Now that you've thoroughly made us jealous, don't even think about sleeping easy tonight... unless the bike's in bed with you.
