Introductions - New member from Long Island, NY/Amherst, MA

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey guys! I am obviously new and i do not even own a bike yet so i decided i would join up here and read up a bit before i plunged into the world of cycling. I am from Long Island, NY but i go to school at Umass Amherst. I have been wanting a bike to commute around school and a bit around town here back on the island.

I look forward to learning a lot from you guys and starting to bike and being less dependent on my car, gas is killing me.

Hello ConstantinosYEA, there's a lot of information here to go through! Look at the stickies posted at the top of the forums, use that search function (hint--sometimes going through Google and focusing on the Bike Forums hits will get you further than using the internal search function!).

Check in with the regional forums folks, and say HI! there too.

Oh, and the Commuting forum, for sure :) .

Welcome to BF!

Welcome! Get a garage sale beater or 2 and get them in running order. A U-lock and chain and you're good to go. If you want to take longer rides, get a nice bike and keep that one at home.

welcome! I go to school in this area and live in RI (but grew up on LI). if you want to talk to a couple of decent guys about getting a bike: go to Laughing Dog Cyclerly. Dave or Parker or very helpful and carry used and new bikes.

I hope to see you on the road!
