Southern California - Ontario Criterium today! Who is going? which cats'. ?

Still debating. I have a 2hr tempo ride on the schedule today, that I still haven't done 'cause I slept in this morning. Still searching for the motivation to go out into the "ick" and get that done.

Ontario is only about 40 minutes from me, so I have plenty of time to make it out there for the Cat IV/V race at 2:55, and a race sounds a lot more fun than a (boring) tempo ride. However, with my sum-total crit experience being San Dimas a few weeks ago, and the local crit-practice last season. I'm not sure I want to take a chance on a crit with Sea Otter, which is my early season mountain bike "goal event", being a week away...

Would really suck to have to sit out Sea Otter 'cause of a crash in an unimportant (to my season anyway), crit.

How technical is the course?

The V race at San Dimas wasn't as sketchy as I was expecting, except for everyone getting all over their brakes on that sweeping left-hander before the little climb. There was no need to be on the brakes through there...

OTOH, San Dimas was a stage race, so people were probably just riding aggressively enough to hold onto their GC standings.

Are non-stage crits generally a bit more hectic?

I might go and watch... (I live 5 miles from the start)

I raced the 50+ and 45+ races and both of them were pretty uneventful. It seemed everyone was in a mood to sit in and think of Easter dinner. It seemed that there was a lot of negative racing, which suited me perfectly, since I went out and had a wee bit to much fun last night and didn't get to sleep until 3am.

YAWN

On a more positive note, at least the gloom wasn't as heavy as it was in Pasadena, where the roads were wet and slippery, but the race course was day and there wan't much of a wind to deal with.

i didnt go. i'll be at the Torrance Crit though, the last race of the day.

I've gone out to watch the races quite a few times. They are held about 3 or 4 times a year in Ontario. Usually at Cedar just East of Archibald. Can't miss the big crowd!

I'm not sure if they still hold them here, but once I watched the crits just East of Haven at the airport. They are listed in the "SoCal Cyclist" publishing that is distributed at the bike shops fer freeeeeee (with all the organized ride pamphlets)!:D

There will be another race at Cedar just East of Archibald next month. There will also be races there in July and August. The airport course is used in June. I raced yesterday in the Pro/1-2-3 race and after being in multiple breaks that were caught, I made the final break of eleven with 3 laps to go. I wasn't too happy with my finish but was happy that I wasn't last in the break.

Well, i just might have to ride over and watch then. :) I'm about 15 minutes away by bike. :lol:
