We hit the annual Elephant Rock Ride today and rode the century loop in 5:25:15 (101.1 miles). The course consisted of many hills, especially the 38-mile loop through Black Forest. My Polar tells me we did 5079 feet of climbing throughout the ride. The wind and rain kicked in a few times, too, but overall is was a totally awesome ride!

that is a great time for a century, my first took me 6:25 or so, and I was wasted (104 miles) but most recently I did the Tour of Palm springs in 6:03 (109 miles)... I really enjoy organized rides :)

Great Job! It's a good thing you were able to ride it in that time because when the storm blew through it was no picnic. We were still about 40 miles out when the heavy stuff hit. After about a 45-60 minute delay and another 15 miles of riding soaked we called it a day. So while I failed to complete my first century it was a great experience.

No Wolfensberger this year :-( ...they took it out...the final climb was up Tomah Road, then down to the frontage road that runs north/south on the west side of I-25.

That storm that wyobiker was referring to (i think...it seemed to rain all over the course yesterday) hit us as we were coming down county line road, just west of I-25...that was some serious rain and wind. It hurt, too! And the lightning was pretty darn close...some friends of ours that did the 50 and 62 mile routes said they actually got some hail :-/ it got ugly there for a while, but seemed to subside once we got the aid station down by the railroad tracks.

Too bad - that was the real challenger.

My wife and I got caught in the same storm in Parker, but got to the van just as the deluge started.

We ended huddling under a covered porch for a while waiting out the storm. I was standing in the back of the group (about 30 fellow bikers) and someone mentioned that it was hailing. Sure was glad we headed for cover prior to that! The rain was hammering down as it was hurting I couldn't imagine what it would of felt like with the hail. There is always next year to make the century!

Great time, djpluv!! Sunday's Elephant Rock Ride was also my first century. I was on schedule to do the ride in 6 1/2 hours, but when the wind and rain came it just slowed me down to a crawl.

I was at the intersection of Roller Coaster Rd and County Line Rd when it started to pour. There was a horse trailer just off the road with a for sale sign on it. So a bunch of us jumped in the back of that to shelter us.

Oh man! If I remember right, that part was in the open, too! It was a nice ride, however, up Roller Coaster and down to County Line - some real nice homes out that way!
