BMX - Bow down to our new mod!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Thank you for the congratulations. No one here needs to bow down to me though. I'm not a king or a president, I'm just a member here with a little bit of extra control to make things better for the community.

Either way, you should unblock me from aim. I don't like being blocked. And if i have stupid questions I won't waste everyones time when I can just waste yours. :P
He's new. Cut him a bit of slack until I have time to go over all he needs to know.

Tmowery18, I didn't block you from AIM, I just don't really go on it. If you catch me online, it may be the sign of the apocalypse. Also, unless you really ask a really stupid question, you aren't wasting my time.
EDIT: Thanks, Expat.

OK, heres a stupid question for you.
http://www.danscomp.com/101425.php?cat=BIKES
That is the bike I'm getting. I don't really like the color. I am probably going to paint it within a month or two. Should I just use spray paint? Should I go right over the stickers and stuff?

Should I go right over the stickers and stuff?
Absolutely not! Sand down the frame first or at least remove the decals and scuff the paint.

Good choice on the bike.

I couldn't have picked it better myself. :D
Also, what's wrong with the color? It's pretty cool.

I'd rather have a 6-pack cause it dosent have the euro BB. But whatev.
FitRider 921
04-08-07, 11:45 PM
There is nothing wrong with a euro BB. I'd rather have a mid or an american, but euro bb's are just fine.
FuzzyRyder
04-08-07, 11:47 PM
Euros break to easy, and you have to service them and replace them more often, and are gay, and for mtn bikes. Mid is where it's at.

04-08-07, 11:48 PM
6-pack has spanish BB. Whats the difference between all of them? And about the color, its just too.....bright, I guess for me.
FuzzyRyder
04-08-07, 11:52 PM
Spanish is basiclaly the same as euro, but the bearings just press in, instead of thread in. They are a bit easyer to service and less of a chance to screw something up since there is no threads. I think they are also a tad bigger due to not having the threaded cups and just pressing directly to the frame. I forgot they switched it to spanish though. I'd still rather have that.

Fuzzy: Try not to use the "g-word" because if anyone happened to read this by any chance that was a homosexual (even though I doubt it), you could really get into trouble.
Tmowery: I don't really like the spanish BB so much. The BB's just come in different sizes and such, but I'm sure someone will find that handy link that shows what all of them are. I realize the color is a little bright, but you might get used to it.

Who cares, don't be stupid, stay in school.
Mod Note: That's a good tip. Don't make me tell you again. Just because I am new at this doesn't mean you can try my patience. I am looking out for you.

Gay is not offensive most of the time, especially when describing a part, which obviously doesn't have a sexual preferance...
FuzzyRyder
04-09-07, 12:08 AM
Yeah you gay lord. If madman says it so can I. I don't think anyone here is gay anyway.
FitRider 921
04-09-07, 12:12 AM
"Gay" can be offensive to some people, and to call something bad "gay" is very disrespectful to those people. "Gay" is getting to be the new version of the old racial slur for African Americans. I don't really want to get into all of this because it would get into a big debate and I really don't think you need to do this on my first day. Just try not to do it.
FuzzyRyder

FitRider 921
04-09-07, 12:16 AM
Trust me, I'm not gay, and I don't find it offensive to myself or anyone I know, but if someone else does, you could really get into trouble.
MadMan2k
04-09-07, 12:20 AM
Gay people choose to be that way, and they know it requires a thick skin. Last time I checked, black people didn't choose to be black (some of them chose to be white.. along with some wack nosejobs and other 'mods').
You've got a bit of responsibility to make judgement calls now, and you can do whatever you think is best, but remember who makes up the forum, and remember that a lot of us have been here quite a while and a new mod enforcing terminology restrictions based on personal interest and not precedent and forum rules will not go over well.
By the way, "get into trouble" is a very harsh way of putting it. If someone complains to you, you warn the person who said the thing, but don't do much more than that until you know if they're going to malicously keep doing what was complained about.

What???
Most that I know didn't make the choice...it's who they are.
FitRider 921

It is not based on personal interest, because it does not concern me. I'm just asking to just use caution with the word and how you use it. If I recall correctly, Expat said the same thing a while ago...
It is also under Respectfulness: We expect our member to show respect for others. Respecting their person, their views, their time and their opinions, and their belief systems ... even if you disagree with them.
EDIT: New Dharma: Thank you for the congratulations as well. I always heard that first was the worst, and second was the best.

His angle was the sponsors, which is legitimate, but it's the BMX section and everyone knows the age group who posts in here, so they aren't expecting businesslike and mature posts. This is still probably one of the 'cleaner' BMX forums around though, even with the occasional term like that thrown around.
I guess that's just one of the many calls you have to make, I still say it doesn't convey any disrespect.
FitRider 921
04-09-07, 12:35 AM
They would still dislike to see derrogatory responses and such. Even though the BMX section is decently clean, there is always room for improvement. I hate to seem like a really strict enforcer, but it could really cause some trouble that you don't want to be in, and I don't want to be held responsible for it. I don't know how you wouldn't see how that would show disrespect. All I'm asking is for people to lighten up on it- that's all.

Actually, you have to be nice, and firm. I have 4 teenagers, so I get plenty of practice. But if anyone disrespects you, they'll have to answer to me.

dont worry.
no one was going to
(except certain tools)
get it?
anyways, waht i was origionally gonna say.....
gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay
now that thats out of the way...
whats the big deal with all this debate about gay people. whether or not they choose, its who they are. deal with it. they know what comes with the territory and it sucks, but thats the way life is.
the trick is knowing when to shrug it off, or when its gone to far. and typing the word gay on an online forum in a non-derrogatory way is not to far. the only thing bad about it is it makes it sound like being gay is bad, and if thats what you take it to mean, then your too dumb to be posting on here.
i think that made sense.
And mude wonders why he was never considered?
i actually cant find anything wrong with my post.
obviously if i was a mod i wouldnt of said some of that, but im not, so why not live it up?
