What are you looking for in regards to brand and model? I just went thru this, you won't find many shops that keep a selection on show room floor but a few have them. I ended up with a Trek T900 due to the wife being to short for any of the other brands and models with straight top tubes in the stoker end.
I went to most all the shops around LA.
Fantastic!
We are actually looking at a T900 due to the shorter stoker. We are in Australia so are unable to do the city search, so any help is great help. Are you happy with the T900?
Newbury Park Bicycles. approx 40 miles northwest of downtown LA, CA. Located in the city of Newbury Park in Ventura County. Still part of the Greater-Los-Angeles-Metropolitan-Area. I have seen and rented tandems at this shop.

Newbury Park Bicycles is not a Trek Dealer. Contact Westlake cyclery at:
3195 Willow Lane
Westlake Village, CA 91361
(805) 497-3030
Or do a search for the TREK superstore in Ventura, Ca. which is somewhat close by to these other two stores. There you will be dealing directly with TREK.

Not many shops keep tandems on floor but I picked up mine at Jax in long beach http://jaxbicycles.com/ they had one T900 in stock you might try calling them and see if they have some coming in or if one of the other stores have one. The price was good also at $899.00 for the T900. They were actually the only ones who had it on floor all other shops needed to order it. I went to most all the shops from Long Beach to Santa Monica area.
As far as if I like it, it's a great tandem for our needs rides good and handles nicely also. I did change tires and seats to our liking as well as a few other additions.

We just bought a T900 this past weekend. We've only been about to put about 15 miles on it thus far, but so far we really like it. I'm 5'10 and my wife is 5'7 so it works fine for her frame size as well. We're still working on getting it fit just right, but so far so good.
This is our first tandem so I can't really compare it to anything else, but for the price point it seemed like a pretty good buy. We actually got ours as a trade in that had only 32 miles on it because the couple ended up deciding to order a custom tandem after riding this one for a few times. I don't know if that bodes well or not, but we'll see. For the price we paid for it, I'm pretty sure we can get that back out of it. We also towed our daughter with it for the first time last night and had no problems with that.

We've had our T900 for about 2 years. We are light users and have upgraded... nothing. Added a computer, rack, and light to it, but other than that we are happy with it. I am 6'4" and my wife is 5'8" fits us fine. Could we get a better fit with a custom? Sure. But for our needs, we are completely and utterly happy with it.

We've got a Trek T900 and it's been flawless so far. As the picture shows, I replaced the handlebars, shifters, seats, SPD pedals, rear rack, and the tire's, (with 26 X 1.5). I'm 5'10" and my wife is 4'10". The T900 frame worked the best for my wife.

No, Eastern Iowa, Davenport to be specific. Went through Harper's Cycle down in Muscatine.

Don, which kickstand is that? With the bike all ready being somewhat heavy, I'm not opposed to sticking another pound or two on the bottom since we ride the bike trail a lot and typically don't have anything to lean the bike on while we're off of it taking a break or adjusting things.
Thanks,
Rick

The center kickstand was off Ebay. Just look in the bike section and search on tandem. They are always listed. Yes it is a bit heavy, (it is steel), but I like the centerstand option, and I couldn't get a regular kickstand to work, and the tandem specific one was a lot more money.
