I'm trying to train for my first triathlon on a Cervelo One 56cm that I've had for about two years and still haven't taken out to a race. I'm currently using the stock seat and wheels that I've been told by a few sources are pretty bad, particularly the wheels, so I've been thinking about upgrading. Does anyone have any suggestions on a decent seat for triathlon and for some respectable wheels? I don't need to get top of the line or break the bank just yet, but I want something that is good quality and will last for a while.

Note, regarding the seat, I'm about 5'10", 155lbs. in case anyone that size has found something that was really comfortable for them...

Thanks!

Ok, after reading some of the other threads about wheelsets I think it's way too early for me to even consider getting new wheels. On the other hand, my a$$ still hurts. Would still appreciate any suggestions on seats...

Would still appreciate any suggestions on seats...Some of the popular seats I've seen: Fizik Arione Tri, Profile Tri (I'm not sure of the name but it has a lycra cover and huge nose), Specialized Toupe. I just bought a Selle Italia SLR T1 saddle. It's really light (supposedly 195 grams) and despite the thin cushioning, it's quite comfortable.

I was just looking at the Forte T1 Tri Saddle for $40 at Performance. Has anyone tried this one? Good/bad?

Also, I am intrigued by the Arione. I remember reading about it in the NYTimes when it first came out, and it seems interesting. Only thing is I don't know if it would be good for the aero position. Has anyone had experience with it in a Tri-specific situation?

I went with the tri stryke, and although it's the only tri saddle I have used I really like it. It is very long and flat, and allows for relative comfort in many different positions. It's been good to me so far. Don't get the white one, though, the color gets pretty ugly in a hurry. FWIW

I have a Forte Fusion which looks similar to the Forte T1 Tri saddle and it seems fairly comfortable so far. I only have 100 miles on it from using it on my commuter though... :p But since finding the right saddle is done through trial and error, i say start with the cheap ones first. :)

(i have a plain fizik aliante on my road bike with a neoprene cover and it works great now that i've got it properly adjusted)

I've tried a fair amount of saddles on my tri bike. Here are my thoughts on them...

Profile Design Tri-Stryke - padding is fairly firm, cutout is actually functional, good flat platform, not much rear padding, nose is WIDE and heavily padded

Selle Italia SLR T1 - padding is fairly firm, fairly flat, a little wide in the nose for me

Selle Italia SLR (135g version) - very little padding, nice flat nose that's fairly narrow, just a bit more padding on the nose and this may have been a keeper

Fizik Arione (road version) - decent padding, long flat narrow nose, only complaint is the ridges from the stripe down the middle, this is my current saddle of choice with a Quintana Roo neoprene cover to deal with the ridge issue

Fizik Arione Tri (original version) - alot like the Arione but with a more padded nose w/o the ridges, padding in nose "squished out" and made the nose too wide for my tastes

ISM Adamo Road - decent padding throughout, "nose" is just a little wider than I'd like, takes some adjustment time to get used to the design

ISM Adamo Race - I haven't had a chance to try it but I've inspected it, noticeably less padding than the Road version, slightly narrower "nose", I'm shopping for this one

What works for one person will not necessarily (and most likely won't) work for another. It's really an individual thing and your size/weight has nothing to do with it.

What I've found for myselft is that I like a narrow nose, a narrow-ish rear and only need a little padding. I ride the nose and weigh 195lb.
