I'm going with MAXM bolt-on grips for my current rebuild as they should be both comfortable and secure.

Yeti hardcore and Race Face Good-n-evil are two of the tackier grips I've tried. I'm not sure if they're available as lock-ons though.

I don't know if they're the best in the business, but if they're as sticky as the old Serfas grips they resemble, they should fit the bill.
Just hope they don't wear out as quickly.

if you want a nice, comfortable grip that gives you lots of control, go for a specialized enduro. if you want pure sticky and really thin, go for ODI ruffian lock-ons.

Just want a soft grip that you can use with bar-ends. I switched from a gel glove to a Specialized Radiator full finger glove and it don't have the padding I am looking for, So I thought I would change the grips.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Oury's yet. All I have used for as long as I can remember.
I am not a fan of lock-ons, they tend to get loose when worn. The allen screws are also really easy to strip out.

What other grips have you tried?

My boys have tried plenty - there was a company a few years back that made some really cool, 2 layer grips (AmiGrip comes to mind), but the only time I ever saw them was when the company sent a box full for race give-aways. They really liked those, but, alas, they are long gone - they were hard, witha slightly softer rubber mesh wrapped around them. Truvative has a squishy grip that one liked & one hated, and they're both using the Rinds now.

Those little screws won't strip if you only tighten them to the recommended tension and by using a 2.5mm hex wrench. For bar ends, I wouldn't want to use a lock on, I'd go with the regular Salsa Juegos De Fuego grips.

I think there's a lot of people who'd wish that ODI would make their screws out of steel. ¬.¬

Pretentious people...yeah eveoyone needs to use the right tool for the right job and it will work... but I believe that ODI made those screws aluminum just because they knew they were easy to strip.

And if you take them on and off enough, even with the right tool, the goddamn screw will strip. The biking industry is a *****. They want your money. Why preach to them? Preach to the sport, not the businessmen.

I think there's a lot of people who'd wish that ODI would make their screws out of steel. ¬.¬

And then those people would probably overtighten the bolt and strip the aluminum lockring threads instead.

Hi all, such a noob question i know, and i will get laughed at for this....

How to get grips off?

Proximo

How to get grips off?

You can blow compressed air under them while pulling. You can squirt mineral spirits (paint thinner) under them. I guess hairspray can work. Soapy water can work too. Basically, if you aren't using compressed air, a lubricant is needed. You'll also need a lubricant to install them. I use mineral spirits because it takes a few minutes to evaporate so you have plenty of time to adjust position but it also dries fast so you don't have to wait hours before you can use the grips like you might with soapy water.

The wear time on them is awesome, they resist blisters like no other and your hands stay planted.

So, specifically, how are these:

substantially better than these?

Yeti Dual Compound Hardcores are a nice grip.

I'm currently using the ODI Rogue (lock-on) and it's a nice squishy grip that's not too big a diameter.

I didn't like the Ruffian version, and OURY are too soft for my liking.

Hardcores are available as ODI lock-ons (direct from Yeti if you want) and they ARE excellent:

I'm not crazy about Ourys; but I have small hands and they're too large for me. Plus they are so squishy they give me kinda a squirmy and vague feeling on the bars. One of my other favorites (don't laugh) - - except that I'm totally a lock-on fan now - - is Scott ATV grips. The slim profile and rectangular waffle pattern is reminiscent of the old Oury MX grips

ATI Pistol grips are good with the flanges cut off too....

http://www.rideati.com/images/BMXpistol.jpg

Most mountain bike grips don't offer much side to side hand movement on the handlebars due to narrow grip width. The Odyssey Team grips and ATI Pistol grips are decently wide and comfortable to use grips....

Another +1 for the Oury grips, especially the lock-on ones. FTR Mine came with steel bolts. I just rechecked it and that's whats one there. I got them a few years ago and picked 4 pair because I got them for $10 a pair. They must have changed the bolts.
