General Cycling Discussion - No Respect

People just have no respect for other peoples stuff.....
Today the unthinkable happened, when I stepped out of my house this morning at 5:00am to make my daily commute to work, I went to unlock my beloved bicycle from where I store it and discovered, to my shigrin that althoe it had been double locked (pee-wee herman style) with a heavy cable lock and a chain with a padlock, SOMEONE STOLE MY RIDE. Now I am wheeless. Oh what am I to do, I cant afford to buy a new bike right now....by the time I save up enough to get a new one it will be well into November.

How pathetic Snoop. I'm sorry for your loss. I'll never understand how someone can do such a thing.
What about a pawn shop or, dare I say it, department store bike just to get you by until you can save up for a good one?
I rode a Wally World (Mongoose) for 1 1/2 yrs. before I bought a good one.
Hope everything works out. Have you checked with your insurance company? Homeowners might cover it. DG

Happened to me a few years ago, Snoop. Having a bike stolen just plain sucks! :cry:

That's why I NEVER leave my bike out of my sight where others can see it (except at university where I have no choice. I just lock it up next to some other ultra spanky bike there so that a thief will just pass it by).

Another thing is to make sure those locks go through the frame, rather than just a wheel or something.

P.S. I hope the thief gets eaten alive by a mad goat! :mad:

I got my new hybrid stolen a few months ago... Got out of lab at midnight and the bike was gone. And the bike was parked in a medical research area where there are tons of cameras around!!!

Look at the bright side: this gives you a chance to get a better bike, albeit in the distant future!

Man, that sucks! Im sorry, i had one of my bikes stolen a few years ago, i was sooo freaking bummed! Thats why i now have my bikes in my bedroom. As for a replacement bike, check out your local yard sales, this is a good time to pick up a clasic road bike for a few bucks!

I had my seat stolen once. That was when i was about 13 yrs old. Had to ride home from the theater standing all the way. my buddy wasnt so lucky. They got his front tire. He had to walk.

In all fairness, there is something about stealing a bike that is lower than car-thieving. It's like kidnapping a loved one. :love:

It's comforting to know that someone cares.
I will trust in the Lord and all will turn out the way it is suspose to be.
It may sound silly, but i know He is with me on this, this morning I was in a blind rage over the loss of my bike, WIth a quick prayer, I could physicaly feel Him removing my anger and tention, I was able to let go of the situation and turn it over to God (and the police) I was even able to forgive the culprit, I made some posters offering a reward, no questions asked for the return of my bike.

Bike thieves, and other thieves for that matter, should be shot in the head. Even better if they're caught in the act. Point the gun at their pathetic forehead, then listen to him beg...then off the punk! Say it was protection of property or something. The lesser of their kind alive, the better.

Bummer, but this is the opportunity to upgrade the ride!
Definitely check out the homeowners insurance, it should cover your bike minus the deductible. (Every little bit helps.)

I had my bike stolen a few months back, and was major bummed...but then I seized the opportunity and got this sweet ride I have now. :cool:

They are alot more understanding at work now too, as far as parking my wheels in my office. Hang in there, if the funds are low follow-up on the suggestions above and hit the yard sales, etc. Good luck!

Snoop - first, report the bike stolen, second go check all of the local pawn shops and used sporting goods store. A friend had his and his girlfriends bikes stolen (from inside their house). Started calling around with a description and found it at the local "Play it Again Sports" used sports shop. You might get lucky. Also check eBay and Yahoo auctions to see if it turns up.

Good luck. And DG's suggestion about looking for a bike at a Pawn shop is good. Bought my first MTB their many moons ago and was able to get a lot of bang for the buck. And, the price is negotiable.

Yeh thats really gut renching! Snoop , know what it feels like also to have a cycle stolen , and i have suffered at the hands of thieves twice!
2nd time! some ar**hole took the front wheel of my bike while on a cycle tour in France a couple of years ago , man did that leave me "high and dry"

Sorry Atwegg, I cant agree with ya there, I hope that the thief will see the errors of his ways and possibly return my bike.
Barring that I hope to apeal to there greed, Im offering a 100$ reward for the safe return of my bike, no questions asked. of course i am a realist and dont expect either to happen (but I can hope) But I dont think my bike is worth a life, not even a bottom feeder like a bike theif.

Bike theft is very common here in North America, that is why if your riding an expensive bike "never I mean really Never lock you bike to any bike stand coz' no matter how well is your bike lock theives will have a way of getting into your bike,

This is perhaps the most mature attitude one can have.

Everyone on this earth has something to be angry about, if they wanted to. Everyone has suffered. But to let go of anger and forgive, that not only takes strength, I believe it brings peace.

To have your bike stolen is terrible. To have your peace stolen is a catastrophie.

You have my highest respect, snoop.

Sorry to hear about your bike. Make sure to report it to the police. Some police station end up with many stolen bikes that are never claimed by their rightful owners. Short of finding your own, You may at least try to claim somebody else's bike (only kidding) :)

Try insurances: home, rental (if you have) or work etc.

As for buying some replacement (if only in the maintime): yard sales, classified, pawn shops, etc.

I don't know what you had or what you are used to, but take that $100.00 you have for a reward and get a clean used bike. You can find something that's worth upgrading, I guarantee it. There are a lot of good bikes out there just collecting dust my friend. Just look around a little and you will find something.
