Road Cycling - Another Felt Question, heavy rider

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Many of you know I'm a "clydesdale" rider. Heck, I'm a "super-clydesdale" @ about 280.

I've been roadbiking for 8 months. The weight IS coming off, but my Specialized Sirrus was in a car wreck and totalled. I am looking at a Felt F-35. I've worked out a nice deal for the bike, but I am somewhat concerned as to the bike itself. I'm sure the frame is OK, but I'm concerned about the CF fork and the integrated headset.
I've ridden other CF forked bikes, short term, and felt very secure. I may be concerned over nothing.
I know the primary concern is the wheelset. Several good sources have pointed me towards the Ksyriums as being very strong. Even if they arent, I DO already own some Mavic CXP-23's that I already know will work, if the Ksyriums dont.

I'm mostly concerned about the Fork and HS.

Any thoughts?

This is the bike...

I can say that I have not noticed any flex from the CF (on my Felt 35R). For some reason, I do not think that Felt makes the CF, I think it is another company and Felt just puts their decal on the fork. Do not take my word on that, I just heard that somewhere, so ask you Felt dealer.

Chip, I dont think you will have any problems with the bike, my club has a few "super-clydesdale's" around your weight, all ride sub 20lbs road bikes with carbon forks. I cant say much about the headset, other then the S-22 (IIRC, there tri-bike) was a very popular choice at this years ironman :)

Other moderators sent me private messages, notifying of problems they saw with my posts, which I appreciate and consider very polite.

You, instead, just deleted my messages without any explanation, using your moderator functions for YOUR own advantage, offending me by such an action and not letting other people smile at a funny picture.

ChipRGW: Good look getting a new bike. Regarding the integrated headset. I have one on my K2 and had to have it replaced in the first few hundred miles. It originally came with a Ritchey headset and was replaced with a cane creek which has been working just fine.

I have read on various web sites (chris king for example) that integrated headsets suck and that you're better off using a standard headset. Given the choice between two bikes that were identical except for the headset I'd pick the one with the old fashioned one instead of the integrated headset.
