Turned out he was recovering from major abdominal surgery, and this was his first time on the bike in three months.

I've heard that one a million times. Eventhough I see the guys out on the trail every weekend!:D

I used to use that excuse too, after I found that "Recovery from Prostate Surgery" didn't work. Perhaps I'll have to come up with a new one...

Just tell 'em that you're slowed down 'cause your balls are getting in the way. ;)

The people I ride with are definitely NOT competitive. We're out to have a good time. We stop for picture, breaks, food, and to take in the great views. If I wanted to work out, I'd go to the gym. Naturally though, the more you ride, the better you get. Every time I ride I find my skills and endurance improving dramatically. A few years ago, I would have to take breaks and sometimes walk even up Maple Springs. Today it's no problem at all. I focus more on technical skills. And I always tell people I'm riding with to keep their heart beat low. SO for example, rather than spinning out the granny gear and reving up your heart, you can use the middle ring and just push a little harder - but you'll keep your heart rate down. This is hard on the knees at first but with time you'll build up the right muscles and find yourself able to push the middle ring a lot more often.

We do the same with the stops, food and laughs. But when it comes to a lil competition, we'll have fun with that too. But I try to keep my group together. I can catch some riders sooner, but keep it down a bit so that my group or Gina can keep up, whichever I'm riding with. They all know that when we see someone ahead, I'm going to pick it up a bit and give chase. They work a lil hard but they all love it in the end!:D

What I think is funny is that when we do pass another rider, it seems that they compete with Gina. They give her the look, they keep an eye on her, but they always seem to pretend I'm not there. I think most guys have a problem with being passed by a chick, even if she's on my wheel.:D

Me? I've had my butt kicked by women plenty of times! There are some good strong fit ones out there and my hat's off to them!
