BMX - Wait or no?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Ok heres my situation. I got out of work today and had a message on my cell phone from the guy from the bike shop. He told me before that he could order the '07 Stolen Wrap. I was psyched about it and I put the $100 dollar deposit in for him to order it. The message said that he couldn't get the bike in until the first week of May. He has a 2006 Fit AM in the shop. I've asked about the bike once but I didn't really get many replies. I want a bike sooner than later but if I wait I want it to be worth it. So the question is, should I get the Fit or wait until may to get the Stolen Wrap. Or possibly get something else? Not the dk 6-pack
http://www.danscomp.com/101425.php?cat=BIKES ---Stolen I would get in May.
http://www.danscomp.com/101951.php?cat=BIKES ---Fit I could get this weekend.
I know a lot of you don't like me but I still respect your opinions so please help me.
Thank you.

Can you tell me why? The owner of the bike shop has told me nothing but good things about it. I know its his job to sell things but he rides to. He also builds custom frames.

Because it has one peice of cromo on the entire bike and it's a pile of junk?

How? I'm trying to be helpful for once. People used to complain that I said "word" too much, so now I have to explain myself.

nahhhhh man.
When I was on my stricker the BB would go out on me all the time. It always felt tight and gross. Not to mention the threads are always ridiculous and if you mess them up it makes life miserable.
A steel frame would do just fine for what he'd use it for most likely.

How do you even know what I would use it for?

If you were good enough to break a hi-ten steel frame, you wouldn't even consider a bike with one, is probably what he's getting at. No offense. I probably wouldn't break one, but 400 bucks wasn't too much money for me so I got the bike I have, which has a decent frame.

So what would you say if I could get a warranty that if I broke the frame within 1 year, I could get a custom one built from him. Would it be worth it?
http://www.royalcycles.com/Bicycles/Royal_Bicycles_Enter.html
The 2 that say they are custom built were built by him.

Ok, I just got an e-mail from him. He also carries WTP, Eastern, DK(I'm not getting the 6-pack) and Integral. If I ordered tomorrow he could have it in this weekend. Opinions?

I would still honestly go with a Fit. I have many friends that have gotten hooked up with fit flows and they do just fine, and they do things 100 times burlier than you will be doing for the first year.
Get something that will work that is cheap, and slowly replace items as you need to.
why not the 6 pack?, maybe a 4 pack?

I don't know. What is so good about it that everyone recommends it so much?
Edit: Nevermind. I'll search it.

The Fit Pro is decent, but if I could choose all over again, I wouldn't pick it. The backend isn't chromo and that is coming back to haunt me.

sprintcarblue
04-10-07, 09:49 PM
yeah, the backend is the only issue ive ever heard of with a fit. even so, it gives you a reason to buy a new frame after you learn enough stuff to break it.
Also, I don't really think that highly of cassette hubs. If you spend the money on one, they are okay, but for starting out I'd take a freewheel. They are much easier to maintain and cheaper to fix. I've gone through 2 odyssey cassettes before I decided to go with my geisha, which doesnt skip and pop and sound like you are running over a dead raccoon.

do you know a lot of kids that ride bmx? if so, just piece together something good from the start with their extra parts. Economical and long lasting. It just takes a bit of patience and learning how to build a bike.

I don't know anyone around here that rides. Everyone skates around here. I only know people I used to ride with a few years ago in another state.
