I ran over a rock and ruined one of my 700x25s on my roadbike. I've got a pair of 700x28s for my hybrid, will they fit on my roadbike rims? Same tubes?

If you have enough frame and brake clearance for the wider tire, there shouldn't be a problem.

Might want to measure the inside width of the rim. A 28 is a little wide for a 13mm-wide rim, as I learned once to my regret once upon a time. Iven if it clears the frame and the calipers, there's a lot of slop in the handling of a bike with too-wide tires.

Thanks for the replys. Maybe I better just ride my hybrid Wednesday. I just don't have much time to go to the LBS before then. I wanted to get a touring style tread for my roadbike,I just wanted to wear the tires out that came with my bike first:D

Hi hillyman

I use 700X28 on my road bike all the time. You will not notice any real difference running 28 over 23 except less flats a better ride and you spend less on tires. My avg speed did not change at all when I switched to 28's.

Bikinguy,
Thanks for your post. I bought bigger tubes and put the 28s on. Rode 34 miles and they worked great. I may go back to 25s someday but I'll have fun wearing out these 28s first.

Was the damage to the tire enough that you couldn't ride, or were you able to get home on it?

With a dollarbill holding the tube in from a big gash it held about 60psi but leaked slowly. My spare tube had holes in it from something jabbing it in my wedge pack. I put 4 glueless patches on it. I actually called my wife to get me but only got the answering machine. She showed up in the car a few miles from home but didn't think to grab a bikerack. I chugged home rather than cramming my bike in the trunk. I woke up in the middle of the night with bad cramps in my legs so I must have got a GOOD workout.
