This website reveals the complexity of research, the human energy, and the money that goes into developing infrastructure for motorized transport.

Why can't this level of commitment be applied to bicycling transportation?

Hmmmm.....

Number of motor vehicles in the US used for transportation vs. the number of bicycles used for transportation? Number of people that use motor vehicles daily for transportation vs. the number of people that use bicycles daily for transportation? The tons of material that are moved daily via motor vehicles vs. the tons of material moved daily by bicycle? etc. , etc.

I'm sorry, but your question strikes me as incredibly naive, incredibly inane, or both.
Hi, Pete.

I got your point. By the way, I love your website. Incredible pics.

Don't forget the money that is going to be paid to attempt to stave off the effects of climate change...

You have a point, LBM. Maybe there aren't a lot of cyclists riding for transportation, but if people want that, then they've got to invest some time and money into designing the optimal system for bicycle transportation.

I can see it now, banked turns on the high-speed bike path...

Build it and they will come. Sure motor vehicles are convenient, but a choice was made and if the infrastructure hadn't been built, they never would have become as popular as they are. Sure, the public 'demanded it', but so did Standard Oil, because they wanted a good return on their investment and they needed a market for their product. Turns out to not have been such a good choice after all (global warming, health effects, pollution in general, and all), eh?

No, that's in another thread about bicycle seats and erectile dysfunction.
