Number of people that use motor vehicles daily for transportation vs. the number of people that use bicycles daily for transportation? You have a point, LBM. Maybe there aren't a lot of cyclists riding for transportation, but if people want that, then they've got to invest some time and money into designing the optimal system for bicycle transportation.

Build it and they will come. Sure motor vehicles are convenient, but a choice was made and if the infrastructure hadn't been built, they never would have become as popular as they are. Sure, the public 'demanded it', but so did Standard Oil, because they wanted a good return on their investment and they needed a market for their product. Turns out to not have been such a good choice after all (global warming, health effects, pollution in general, and all), eh?
