...I give up.
No race on the 21st.

How the hell can you race when you can't train?!
I refuse to ride the trainer in April.

Now taking up checkers, sted cycling.

Totally bummed. Still plan on riding 100+ miles this weekend though....just won't be starting my commute by bike this week.

Damn and I was crying about it being in the 50s here in the Carolinas.

The commute this morning was nasty but fun. I am, however, sick of this mess.

my freaking SAD is back and in full winter bloom.

i guess it's off to stare at my bike in the garage for a while.

Wait... isn't SAD caused by lack of sunlight? We're getting the light, just not the fun temps or full sun.. ??

And if you're going to stare at the bike, at least put it on a trainer and suffer for real! You'll feel better after about 30 minutes of that.

Well, on the bright side, I had planned on mowing the lawn this morning. Spent some time on the trainer instead. Regardless, this is pretty depressing. :(

SKI ! :p

Just because you can't ride, doesn't mean you can't train and have fun.

Should get three days of rare April skiing out of this one.

Don't worry folks, there will be plenty of heat stroke for everyone yet.

PLUS, nobody says you can't haul out the MTB !

No SKI for ME!

One wrong fall on that ceramic ball in the fake hip and that = ER surgery, a month off work and six-months rehab.

No thanks.

He's talking Cross Country skiing. Low impact and awesome for aerobic activity. Much less risk than cycling for your hip.

Incorrect.

(God, that's botto-like)

I tried it years ago...spent more time on my ass than on my skis.

There's that...and well...I hate winter, snow, cold, and anything else to do with it.

If I had a job offer in Fort Myers I'd take it today.
Bring on the heat and humidity!

Right...good luck skiing in a 2 inch base. No snow pack. Sounds like fun.:( Might as well take your bike on an ice rink...if we had those.

I think I might be depressed...damn, where'd I put the booze...

I'm normally a fair weather rider, but I manned up for once and rode our local (and informal) 10 mile time trial. Next purchase is going to be booties if I keep this up. It was 35 (wind chill in the 20's) and sleet/rain. Toes were frozen by the end. Oh, and the wind. Airport says 21.9mph wind with gusts to 26.5mph when I started at 6:15.

What is SAD?

"Animals react to the changing seasons with changes in mood, metabolism and behaviour and human beings are just the same. Most people find they eat and sleep slightly more in winter and dislike the dark mornings and short days. For some, however, symptoms are severe enough to disrupt their lives and to cause considerable distress. These people are suffering from SAD"

i am totally under considerable distress from this crappy weather. :) add in the fact that my entire household is sick and this feels like full blown winter to me.

as for the trainer i dont have one. i have only been on my bike twice since my last ride of 2006 (November). i did enjoy the quality garage time with her this afternoon though. later.

Yeah, like riding the trainer in the basement is fun. :p

Did'ja see what they got up north over Easter? 60+ inches south of Houghton ... probably 80 inches in isolated spots. They were getting their snow mobiles stuck ! :D

For a cyclist, SAD is caused by lack of outdoor riding :(.

With week long stretches of below zero temps (some times below -20 with wind chill), and constant ice pack on the roads, my SAD has been particularly bad this year. Its time for spring (or time to get a SS 29er with studded tires and full Assos winter riding outfit.)

Dumping up here in the Yoop too. That map above isn't totally accurate. I had heard that we ended up with 59 inches from last weekend's storm here and we are expected to get another foot plus this weekend. The skiing is great!

I was wondering how those old timers working in the copper mines during the 1900's viewed all that snow. Imagine working underground 16 hours only to come up and face 4 feet of snow ! Oi !!

But if they saw their shadows, then that meant only 6 weeks more of winter.. Oh wait, nevermind

The weather no longer blows, at least for today. I rode a nice metric in the full sun. Temps were in the mid-40s for most of the ride, but after about 3 miles of wondering if I should have gone with full gloves the blood was flowing and I felt fine.

My legs hate me now for doing that many miles without any training to accompany it. My mind is happy though and telling the legs to get over it. :)

I'm going out too. From my window, the weather no longer blows. It's not ideal yet, but good enough to ride.

As I ride I am going to sing "Spy In The House of Love" by Was (not Was), which is the song of the day.

Nice mileage. I bet the ride was glorious! I am doing something not so fun. It is my first tangle with a very sick infant, a sweet little 19 month old to be exact. I had no idea such a little person could generate sooo much, uhm well you know, number twosies. Good times.

Later. :)

Way to go CyLowe!

I've gotta get off my fat arse and at least put 35 miles in easy on Saturday....been way too long with way too much Easter chocolate.

Congrats on the nice ride!
