Ok, tommorrow I have this bike shop putting this bike together for me. The thing is I have a bike I bought from them less then 60 days ago. I paid a little over $300.00 for it. It is a major step up from the Walmart Huffy that I had. But, I was noticing that people were passing me and it was still kind of hard pull my man around in his trailer. My 1st bike weighed about 60lbs, the one I have now is 25lbs and the one I want is about 17lbs. And is much faster. The thing is it is almost $800.00. I was thinking about trading in mine and buying it. I think they will give me almost what I paid for it. But, I was like Damn, that is alot of money for a bike. But it is really sweet and I have already lost 5lbs in a 2 weeks. I really want it but, Damn!!!http://www.longhaircareforum.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wallbash.gif

Stay with your 300 $ bike and send the left over 500$ to kids in Indonesia...
you will feel better than if you owned a $10000, 2 lbs super bike :)

Here is the page - bike picture link is in the very bottom of the page. (http://buddy.bbsg.ca/bike_trip.html)

You can consider the price motivation to keep riding, You can also look at it like this: Ride it for two years, two months and ten days and you will only have spent a dollar a day on it. Or compare it to the cost of a gym membership.

If you find the bike that more enjoyable to ride then go for it! It's your money and you are spending it on a good cause your health and fitness. A gym membership now adays can easily run you $300 for a year, and you will probably have that bike 4-5 years atleast so alot cheaper :) And also figure in weight you will lose so you will live longer.. so let's add 10 years to your life. Let's take away some of the things you would go to instead of biking like movies etc.. so figure $20 a month their.. So we saved around $540 for one year.. and spread that over 5 years owing bike.. about another 10 in extending your life.. so money well spent :) Okie this is not completely realistic way to calculate it out, but if it lets you enjoy cycling more go for it.

Yeah, there are many tricks to talk someone/yourself into buying something expensive. It's basically finding excuses, or perhaps making a right decision.
In addition, you could say... only $700 to fill up a gas tank is $30 and if one is burning a gas tank in a week, money for the bike will be saved in 23 weeks, a little more than 5 months.
Or a cost of the speeding ticket... 150$. Or nice dinner in the restaurant can easyly cost 50- 100 dollars.
It's all relative.

After all, we are only living once.

Its up to you but let me warn you: most bike shops aren't into "tradingin in" bikes. They aren't used car lots.
If you plan on getting the new bike then you'll probably have two choices of what to do with the old one:

1) Fix it up (as much as needed) and sell it on eBay.
2) Keep it as a spare.

BTW, if you aren't racing, then there really isn't that much of a difference between a 25 and a 17lb bike.

Just my $0.02

bleek: Stick with the 25 pound bike for now. You'll work harder riding it, that's true, but look at the extra benefits you're getting. You're losing weight and with time you'll be able to pull your man around in the trailer easier.

We all suffer from bike lust - there is no cure :)

Here's the great thing - whatever you decide, you won't be making a mistake. If you get the Sequoia, you'll be getting a great bike. It's not one of the best selling bikes for no reason. It's a great comprimise between road and sheer comfort. If you choose not to get the bike, you still have one, one that's fine for what you want to do with it.

I am going to go ahead and get it. I thought about it like this. I found my reciept and it was just a little over 30 days ago. So the bike is still in good enough shape to return. It is going to be awhile before I have this option again. Also, I ride by myself some times and would like to go longer distances. So, I think I am going down there and pick me up one.
(Plus it looks cooler)

Bleek, it's a great, comfortable bike. I went with the Allez because I was getting more into racing and felt a more aggeressive road bike would suit me better, but I spent a day with the Sequoia and I thought it was super comfortable, yet still retained the road bike feel. My friend who is has a Sequoia as well as several other high dollar bikes loves and uses it for non-training days when long rides with family are the order of the day.

Good choice... and no... I don't work for Specialized, I'm just a happy owner! :D

Well I did it. I went back and traded in my bike and it is great. It is going to be some time getting use to the shifting but needless to say it is great. It feels WAY faster than my old bike but the comfort level is nearly the same. I think I made the best choice for me because I read on this forum about some one belly aching about how the steering is non adjustable. As in to leaning forward or upright. The Sequoia you can adjust to either. Also, I didn't like how the brakes are out front of the handle bars. Going from a Hybrid to this was a major step for. But with the second pair of brakes up top, it will make it easier for my fat-a$$ to get use to them. I think I would like the Allez but the Sequoia is better made for me. Thank you all for your help. You guys and gals are the greatest.
