Performance is opening a store in Albuquerque. It's going to be north of Montano and west of I-40, essentially across the street from REI. They haven't announced an opening date on their website (http://www.performancebike.com/inform/store_profile.cfm?Store_ID=107), but I'm assuming it's going to be relatively soon since their hiring fair was three weeks ago.

Anybody know when the store's supposed to open?

Today's Journal (4/19) says "next week." Not much help, I'm afraid. . .

Retail being what it is, I'd figure they'd probably have a grand opening on Saturday and likely be open for a day or two prior to shakedown their systems.

The article says they've got 10,000 square feet. Lists the address as 1431 Mercantile.

Hmm...I'll have to hop down there next weekend and see if they're open yet. I'd go during the week (I commute on the path along the North Diversion, which is just a couple of blocks from there) except I'm usually late, and always in a hurry... :)

I missed the mention of it in the Journal.

It is already open. I have a 10% coupon. If anyone wants it, PM me an email address.

I got an e-mail coupon today which is dated for yesterday, today and tomorrow. Says they're open, but when I went past yesterday coming back from Costco they didn't appear to be open yet. One presumes they wouldn't send out an e-mail coupon if they weren't really open. . .

When I tried the phone number from the e-mail at about 3 this afternoon, I got a "number not in service message". . .

The store is open, they just haven't got their telephonics in order yet. I called their national customer service (which is mostly for mail order) they called back to confirm the store is open.

They also don't have their bike racks in order yet, which struck me as funny. I went by there Friday and again Saturday, and had to lean my bike against the wall inside the door since they don't have a rack out front.

I've been there twice and have yet to buy anything. I keep meaning to pick up a new chain, but I guess I get so distracted by all the other stuff that I haven't remembered yet.:o

A bit off topic, but my LBS, Richardson Bike Mart has bike racks at the work counter and inside the front door. I love being able to ride in the door and rack my bike and then shop or whatever without worry.

Many of the smaller places here don't have racks out front, and I've always just taken my bike in and either put it in a rack (if there's one available) or leaned it against the wall. I guess it just felt strange at Performance - it's a rather large store but there's little wall space (it's mostly taken up with shelves and displays), so it just felt strange to take the bike in. It's also a big enough store that it was hard to keep an eye on it, so I was nervous about it wandering off unexpectedly (especially Friday afternoon with my panniers on it).

Honestly, I was a little underwhelmed by the Performance store. I looked at their new bikes, and didn't find one that screamed, "Buy me!" That's unusual for me - normally every time I set foot in a bike shop I have to temper the desire to make a major impulse buy with the knowledge that the mortgage company really wouldn't care how cool the new bike was, they'd still want their money. :)
