Yesterday, I went out on a 18 mi. ride for the specific purpose of riding one of the better training hills around here (eastern CT). The hill is close to 1 mi. long and I rode a loop so I could do it three times. Anyway, since my Masi Gran Criterium S is in the shop, I took my MAZA TSX (circa '89 Columbus TSX w/chromed fork & rear triangle and Athena friction shifter grupo). I am usually pretty slow on the hills and this bike has the standard Athena crankset with 13X23 cogs. In comparison my Masi has a compact crankset with 14X23 cogs. Anyway, the ride of steel was amazing. It felt smooth and solid, like every pedal stroke was going into forward motion. I absolutely loved riding it. And, I really felt strong on the hills. But, the fork and rear chrome are really badly pitted. The result of my poor storage for 7 yrs. I'm sure. So, my question is this: Can this frame be fitted with CF forks and rear in an effort to clean it up and lose some weight? Right now it weighs 22-23 lbs road ready. My Masi weighs 17 lbs but without pedals, pump, etc. TIA
