Fifty Plus (50+) - Tan line?

What's that line across the top of my forehead?
Oh no, it's a tan line from my helmet!
I actually noticed it a while back but it looks like it's becoming more pronounced.
I never bargained for a two-toned forehead :lol
What do I do about it?

Lots of sunscreen! If I have a tan line anywhere, I know I've not been using enough sunscreen.

Wear a cycling hat under your helmet. On my recumbent, my head is so upright (even tilted back slightly) that a helmet visor doesn't do the job, so I started wearing one of those cycling hats with the short very-downturned visor. It does a great job of shading my eyes, stopping wind from coming in over my sunglasses, and keeping sweat off my face.

...plus keeping bees at bay and minimizing sun burns on my Friar Tuck bald spot! Cycling hats rule!

Yea, but they look funny in a bathing suit:eek: Self-tanners help to even out the tan on the legs and arms. At least I only look two-tone brown instead of brown and white:rolleyes:

As for the hat, you can't tell in the photo but it's full of holes.
But it might be time for a cycling hat, yeah! Maybe when I get my new roadie

Cycling cap does the trick. Plus: it shades your eyes from sun, keeps rain off glasses and use it as a rag when nothing else is available

Bandanas keep the sun off your head, keep the sweat out of your eyes. If you rinse them with water, they cool your head as the water evaporates.

Nobody mentioned the other true tan badge of a cyclist, the spot of tan on your hand between the thumb and forefinger where the glove strap forms a gap. Or if you wear classic cotton crochet gloves, you'll have little tan dots on the back of your hands.

I'm pretty sure its gonna take sunshine to get some tan lines...this is Ohio.

+1...in fact, just bought me a new pair of gloves with mesh on the back, for the summer, so I can get those little tan dots!

Attach a bike mirror to the front of the helmet to deflect those rays to the forehead?

My nephew, got a job a bicycle police officer in a shore town. He shaved his head. After the first few days in the summer sun, he noticed that he was getting tan through the vent holes in the helmet.
Although it was funny, how hard do you laugh at somebody that carries a gun?

LOL - I spent quite a bit of time traveling to Cincinnati on business some years ago, and distinctly remember the local TV weatherman getting excited because after two weeks of persistent heavy cloud cover, the forecast for the next day was for "light gray".



FWIW, we've had a dry winter here in Northern California. I've logged 1200 miles so far this year (despite being off the bike 4 weeks due to a crash), and both my arms and legs are getting nicely tanned. Life is Good!

Had one of those once...and it HURT-- the skin gets tight when it burns and I had a headache for a week... Now I wear a 'do-rag' under the helmet, and have no problems with burns on top... haven't noticed a line on the forehead yet though...

It's that stuff above your eyes, I think they call it eyebrows. Rather than comb it down, you comb it up.

I don’t recommend applying any sun block above the eyes, i.e. forehead. When you sweat from the above and if it gets into your eyes the lotion causes a hell of a burn feeling. I do use a lot of sun block everywhere else I am exposed. I use a skull cap with a built in sweat band summer and winter without issues. Some skull caps are made with a flap of material that covers the back of your neck. This is a good feature to look for. Lastly, skull caps prevent helmet hair. Helmet hair is that look after you remove your helmet and hair is parted to match all the vents in your helmet.
