The Juniper Flat Rural Fire Protection Dist is putting on a fund raiser bike ride the 19th of May, I know this ended up the same as Reach the Beach, but hoping maybe this will fit some people. There will be a long loop of 40 miles with some climbing and 8 miles along the Deschutes River, and a short loop of 20 miles, all very rural. We'll have rest stops and support vehicles. Cost? Do you have a map of the route?

Hi East Hill, the cost is $25.00. I printed out maps for riders, from Google, but don't know how I would email them, do you know that?

Do you have a website link or other information? I do the newsletter for our club and try to include information on other local rides. I'd be interested in adding information to our May issue, if that's ok.

As an aside...my cousin lives in Maupin :)

Sorry, we have no website. I did list it on ORBike.com, and I would be happy to email you information if you could use more. Since you have a cousin in Maupin, you probably already know how great the bike riding is, hopefully we'll see you here. Thanks for your interest.

Is there day of event registration and what is your expected start time? I would like to arrange a trip south to coincide with it.

Lynn- I just found out that I will be only just getting back from British Columbia the day of the ride. Can I still make a donation, by using the contact e-mail you provided?

I'm going to work on my husband for next year's ride :D .

Isn't maupin literally in the middle of nowhere? (opens google earth) yep! Granted... I need a change from reach the beach, but where do you ride on this? What is the scenery like? I'm kinda interested... I would like to see more of Oregon, but man...thats a long haul (140 miles) to ride 40 miles :(

I just went from Kent, WA to Yuba City, CA to ride 40 miles! Maupin isn't in the middle of nowhere, and it's a beautiful little town. Also, if you visit Maupin, you can hit Dufur, as well :D .

East Hill, you're the best! I hope you do get to come ride with us next year, and just save your donation until then. Maupin, Dufur and so many of the other small towns around are absolutely wonderful places to bike, because of the low traffic and the views. The 40 mile loop on this ride, it about 7 miles of mostly flat farm ground, then 4 miles downhill, thru Maupin and then follows very low traffic BLM road along the Deschutes River for 8 miles to Sherar's Falls (spectacular). Climb out of Sherar's about 2 miles and a wonderful rest stop at White River Falls State Park, the balance of the ride is ranch and farm area, with another rest stop on a Century Farm on Juniper Flat, with great views of Mt Hood. We often get wind in the afternoon, but mornings are generally calm and beautiful. Thanks for your interest Jakey!

Thanks Dogbait! My husband wandered by and stared at your photos for a few minutes, so I think he's hooked for next year's ride :D .

Lynn--we wound up spending a night a few years ago in Maupin, and thought it was a great place! We'll plan on being there next year.

Dang. I wanna go there. But it looks like I may be moving into my new house that weekend. Maybe next time. Or sometime... or something

JonRags - there is also a Maupin city wide yard sale going on that day, maybe your wife would be interested in that for the morning. They've been doing it for several years now, there's a pet parade and then mostly like a flea market.

Wow the pictures that were posted are beautiful. I have been in that area before and can say those pictures do give the Falls justice. There are other conflicts so I am really torn and am still considering which direction I will go.

Well grace, I hope we'll see you here, but you are right there are just so many choices!

I made most of this ride this weekend, I just know people who come are going to love the sights, and the low number of vehicles. Less than 2 wks now, we'll see some of you here!

Its is a beautiful place to ride. And RAFT. I did both last year and totally loved it. The rafting is fantastic. Stay in Maupin. I did a pretty good ride up onto Bake Oven Road and out to Shaniko, I believe. I would do the ride this year but am doing the Reach the Beach ride to keep my Century per month going.

I can hardly wait to do the Maupin ride. The pics are inspiring enough to drag me from Alaska to join in the fun! Hooray to Lynn for organizing this worthwhile event.

Welcome Belzora, maybe we'll have a prize for coming the most distance to paticipate. I'll have to think on that, now that I've brought it up it better be something good!

Bike Ride is this Sat, looks like we might have some wind, but it will still be fun. We have awesome rest stops with awesome food, lots of homemade cookies, and more.

Lynn, how did the ride go? Photos? I'm asking in anticipation!

I did the short loop hoping to catch up with some friends [no shows from Bend] and then went out and rode the parts of the longer loop I missed earlier. A little wind, cookies from heaven, and a great deal on a battery charger at a yard sale. This is an excellant venue. Oregonians need to give this ride a go. I'd post my pictures but they aren't as good as what's already up.

pyeyo, thanks for coming! We only had six riders, we had a great time, but disappointing, our support crew and rest stops were all ready. Weather was about 65 degrees and some wind. We'll try it again next year!

Next year I will try and get down there! Even if I had been back in time (barely), my mother came to visit, and she would have been most annoyed if we had not been there for her :D .

Hi Mel,

My mom and I are planning a bike trip this summer for 5 days. I've been reading LynnH's Maupin post and saw your post about the Bake Oven Rd. and staying in Maupin.

Can you recommend a good place to stay? and can you recommend some good rides for us? We like 30-50 mile rides, and to stay at B+Bs!!

Thanks!

Just want to say thanks to all the folks in Maupin who put on a perfect ride with the best homemade cookies to finish it off. Beautiful country and friendly people. Hope to see you next year.
