Don't know where this film will ultimately end up playing, but figured a notice is in order for those who may not be aware.

All very nice, but looking at the trailer I got the impression that we might be in for a succession of ½ sec jump cuts with lots of wobble-cam, and no scene longer than 2 secs; similar to "The World's Fastest Indian" (anyone remember that one?) - great potential, but lacking in plot/substance/direction.

I thought perhaps you were referring to a film about Billy Mills (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Mills) that I'd never heard of, but google tells me it's about a New Zealand motorcyclist :)
I have no idea about the film's quality...I was merely intrigued by the protagonist.

A lot of folks -- myself included -- think "Fastest Indian" is the best motorcycle movie ever made. If the Obree film is anywhere near that good it'll be amazing.
So what happened to Obree anyway? I read his book and know that he tried to kill himself a couple of times. Have things improved for him since?

Graeme is still riding his bike :) , and racing occasionally.
He rode the British national track champs in 2005 and did a very respectable 4:41 for a 4km pursuit.
Last year he just missed out on winning the Scottish 10 mile time trial champs (11 seconds behind the winner who, a few weeks later, won the British 25 mile champs). Over the winter he did a demonstration pursuit against the GB junior team pursuit team in front of 3,000 spectators!! (The juniors caught him with 1 lap of the 4km to go). So Graeme is still very fast:D but he's not taking things as seriously as he once did.
As for his mental state, well I really wouldn't want to speculate on such a private matter but he's seemed very cheerful on the couple of occasions that I've spoken to him (very briefly) in the last couple of years. I'm sure that anyone who's met Graeme, or read his superb book, will wish him well.

Ah, that's great good news. He was a breath of fresh air, as far as I'm concerned, and I do indeed wish him well.

I saw it in an actual theater with about 9 other people.

I saw it in a completely empty theater. I'd say it's the best cycling movie ever, and I'm counting Quicksilver so that's saying something.

So wait, you're comparing Flying Scotsman with the worst cycling movie ever made, and saying that it's better than that? Huh. :p
I saw the movie and I thought it was pretty good. Of course I loved Hackers so casting ZeroCool/CrashOverride as Graeme Obree may have affected my judgement.
In any case the movie has inspired me to attempt the hour record. I'm going to do it in a little over a month from now...

I saw it as well and thought it was pretty good. The fact that his innovations kept getting declared illegal was quite ironic and humorous. I'm not sure how accurate that was in the film relative to reality.
