Mountain Biking - shims or posts?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. My new bike build is almost done.....I need a seatpost....a 30.9.....
Now I have several 27.2 laying around....so my question is....
Should I just buy the shims or adaptors which will allow me to use my 27.2 seatposts.....or should I just buy that 30.9...
What are the pros and cons of the Shims.....
- will it damage my frame/Post
- am I secrificing any strength
- would the shims cause any slippage, needing frequent seatpost adjustments?
- are the generic shims accurate in terms of sizing...
here is a sample of what I am considering

please help......
Must be a Specialized, eh?
Should I just buy the shims or adaptors which will allow me to use my 27.2 seatposts.....? Yes.

- would the shims cause any slippage, needing frequent seatpost adjustments? None that I've ever detected.
- are the generic shims accurate in terms of sizing? Should be.
I got sick of the 30.9 deal with my old BigHit and went to a shim and a 27.2 and never regretted it.

Or perhaps a Banshee?
I would get the correct size post for no other reason than it's the correct size post.

Or perhaps a Banshee?
Banshee is 30.0...at least my Morphine is 30.0.
If your 27.2 post is just a generic post then now would be a good time to upgrade. If it's a nice post, then get some shims.

Thanks
dminor, gastro, and FreeRidin' ...
its A Haro V5 frame....
I have a couple of Kelloy UNO seatposts. that I could use with the shims.... the cost of this would be around $10 for me.....
but I was eyeing on some Estong EA70 and Thomson Elite seatposts.....cost probably $50
what am I going to get for the added $40? any thoughts.....
thangs again guys...
Once I put the seatpost on....I have to find a digital camera to take some pictures...
and I will probably come back with "what digital camera for All Mountain bike pictures? under $XXX?"...
you know that digital cameras that take XC bike pictures are not as sturdy as the AM digitals....
but I was eyeing on some Estong EA70 and Thomson Elite seatposts.....cost probably $50
what am I going to get for the added $40? any thoughts.....
Peace of mind, especially with the Thomson.

I was supposed to do a road race last Saturday but they cancelled it after I drove 110 miles to get there. I have already done six races this year, all top tens with one second place. My mountain bike race season begins this Sunday.

thanks for your suggestions Pete. the seatposts I was refering to worked for me pretty well. never any problem. But, I am kind of venturing into the obscure world of All Mountain riding (I have no idea what the heck it means)...but still going with the AM flow....

They probably got wind that you were coming . . . .
LOL, yeah I imagine all theh cat 4's were shaking in their tights. Of course, the shaking could have been from the freezing temperatures and the snow storm. :D
Congrats!
