Should I really get my cross frame smaller than my road frame, or is that just a myth? If its true, why is that?

my felt road bike is a 58 & i have an 07 redline conquest that is also a 58 it fits and rides geat , in my opinion i would not go smaller as the top tube will be to short , once you climb aboard it will feel great , it may look a little taller than your conventional roadbike as cross bike tend to have a taller bottom bracket , just my two cents .

The bottom bracket is higher on a cross bike, so the seat tube is shorter with same sized top tube. Bikes are sized by the seat tube, so typically one gets the next size down. YMMV.

The best answer yet on the difference between road and cross sizing.

I just ordered a Fuji Cross and went one size down from my road Fujis. Look at the actual toptube length of your road bike and compare that to the actual tt measurement of the cross bike. I have found that some manufacturers I would ride a 54, and a few where I would ride a 56.
