I came across this frame last night. Only drawback is it's aluminum otherwise I'd be on it. They also have that White Gan Well Pro on there too that is way out of my price range. Any word on the MSRP of the Milwaukee track?

It has very thin tubes for an aluminum bike. I would not necessarily consider aluminum to be an automatic disadvantage.

Looks like a steel frame to me.

If you check out the Ben's site, they describe the tubing as "feeling like steel", so I just assumed. I agree it looks like steel in the photo.

That's a good looking bike. Good color, understated logo, lugged crown
fork, "aggressive" geometry. I dig it.

verus tubing is steel i think. looks like they just jacked the geometry from that ganwell they're selling. glad to see at least one frame out there for those of us with long legs and short torsos.

brake holes? track frame? Seems like they should make it an option or no holes at all. Or maybe theyre just calling it a track frame to sell more of them.

ryanday
04-13-07, 08:51 AM
Track frame in the sense that a Bianchi Pista is a track frame. It can be, but it doesn't have to be.

schnee

They straddle genres in general. Look at the Milwaukee Orange One... basically a steel path-rider single-speed.

jimmy_jazz
04-13-07, 08:59 AM
Last time I checked brake holes didn't make something track geometry or not, and if not used, do not affect the handling of the bike in any way, nor the ability to ride it on the track

deathhare
04-13-07, 09:03 AM
I didnt say anything about the holes affecting the geometry. Where did you come up with that?
And having track geometry doesnt make it a track bike either. :)

What does? Whether the specific bike is actually being ridden on a track?
I guess I am one of the few people here who have actually ridden track bikes then. And guess what some of them have had brakeholes.

Brake holes in no way prevent something from being a track bike, they just make is usuable off the track as well. Not including them on something you expect people to be riding around so that a few morons will think it's more *track* is idiotic.

This thing looks to be as much of a track bike as those old vitus things that are always popping up on ebay for cheap. I wouldn't buy it but I will refer to it as a track frame.

Dropouts look stamped, not forged. Not a big deal but forged dropouts FTW!

Never heard of that tubing so not sure what the quality's like. Welds look pretty clean, pretty sure that's steel otherwise it would be some hella' thick aluminum tubing.

What are they asking?

Those old vitus aluminum frames were frightingly flexy. Hopefully, this will not repeat that.

The site says its an aluminum frame.

The Track Frame:
Personally designed by us here at the Milwaukee Bicycle Co., and with the help of Waterford Precision Cycles, the Cream City Track Frame consists of dynamic Verus tubing that has an ultimate tensile strength of 120 ksi, more than twice the strength of current aluminum alloys. True Temper incorporates a stress relieving process in the creation of Verus tubing which removes the residual stresses created in forming any tubing structure. The result of this is a higher life than standard annealed tubing, incredible stiffness, liveliness, low weight, and the "feel of steel."

Track riders will love the race tight geometry specifically designed for our debut track frame.

Rear dropouts are spaced to 120mm to fit the most up-to-date high-performance track components.

The Waterford Fork:
Fashioned from Reynolds seamless 4130 track blades with a classic “flat-top” investment cast crown and new laser cut drop-outs for added stiffness. A classic finish to a great package.

verus tubing is steel.

where? i see "the Cream City Track Frame consists of dynamic Verus tubing that has an ultimate tensile strength of 120 ksi, more than twice the strength of current aluminum alloys."

assuming it's using a current alloy as well, i'd assume they mean that it's not aluminum.

here's some info on verus tubing:

since it's made by Waterford and they only make steel frames. my guess would be steel.

WTF is the point of a frame that's theoretically my size but that I can't stand over without giving my top tube a massage with my taint?

The geometry doesn't really seem that odd to me. Note that they are sizing the frames from the center of the BB to the top of the top tube. That is different from standard c-t and c-c, so keep that in mind. I never pay much attention to standover, but it doesn't seem that unusual. Upon closer inspection, the tube lengths, angles, wheelbase, BB drop and other aspects of the geometry seem fairly typical to me.

well, i dunno if it's the point, but a size smaller fits people like me (the short torsoed). there are literally thousands of frames out there for people who want long top tubes and shorter seat tubes. we have almost none.

Top of the /SEAT/ tube, you mean -- and it has an extended seat tube area where the clamp attaches. I have no idea why they're not measuring to the top of the tube itself rather than to the top of the extension. Weird.

Fair enough. I'm one of those small people with long-ish torsos and stumpy limbs, so I'm coming at it from a different angle.

Wonder if it's the same frame the American Cyclery is selling. They have a "waterford track frame" branded for their shop. Looks similar.

It's most likely a Gunnar Street Dog frame...Gunnar and Waterford are more or less the same thing.

Nice looking bike but this is just the kind of thing that p!sses me off. I ride a 49 cm frame and it's getting increasingly hard to find anything that size. Few shops stock that size, and if they do, not in many models. Pay attention to the customer, Ben's!

Yeah and what an extension! It's easily 5cm over the tt's centreline. I bet the bike with a 59cm st measurment in the op sizes much more like a conventionally measured 56. Looks like short people do got a reason to live.
