have a 78 Continental frame that I got for free which is in the process of a SS conversion. Ashtabula crank runs smooth and 39T chainring paired with a 15T cog should give me the ride I'm looking for, plus chrome CR still has nice shine and gives it a cool, vintage look. Have most basic parts covered by leftovers from past projects (Brakes, Bars, saddle, ect.) but now am stuck on a wheelset.
Don't want to drop TOO much $$$ on this, as it will be my designated beater [have a decent CF Trek 2100 and a daily-rider SS (48x16) World Sport]. Looked aorund and can get a decent freewheel set for round 20 bucks (Used) and the BMX cog for a little less @ Harris. Just worried about the re-dish work. LBS said it would run bout 30 bucks, but said chances were 50/50 that they could make the setup work ("We wil have to see what we can do..."). If 50/50, don't want to drop a load of cash just to make it work.
Have a Shimano 105 freehub/single cog/spacers setup on the W. Sport and the chainline is perfect, but it looks like the cheapest freehub wheelset I can get is going to run me 100 bucks + S/H from bicyclewheels.com then add SS cog and spacers. Freewheel/BMX cog vs. Freehub/cog/spacers...? Thoughts? Opinions? thanks
