Does anybody have any comments on cycling around town and out into the boonies (parks, wilderness, etc) in Duluth? I haven't been there often, but it's still on my possible-places-to-live list because of the nearby wilderness and properly seasonal seasons. (I spent 15 years in MN before the recent long-term warming cycle started) However, the size of the slope between downtown and the upper parts of town makes me wonder if it's hell on a bike?

Wait a minute. Your location says Hawaii and you want to if it is hell in Duluth? Just to let you in on a secret, hell actually freezes over in Duluth. :p

Don't know about Duluth, but pretty close in Grand View, WI there is this race http://www.firehouse50.org/sitenew/index.html

And riding in the surrounding Chequamegon national forest is very nice.

I'm not a racer - I just like to bike around town to get to work, groceries, coffee shops, parks, etc.

I'd really be in heaven if I could do all those things in my snowshoes.

There is a great paved bike trail that runs the north shore out of Duluth. Not sure where it ends but I know it goes pretty far. The hills in town are steep, but not any worse then San Fran. The challenge is staying warm. January and Feb in Duluth are pretty brutal. There's a reason why the downtown shops have indoor walkways connecting them.:D

I'm in the twin cities, my brother lives in Duluth and I get a chance or two to ride there.

The Munger trail south is most excellent. There are a couple of good LBS in town. As someone else mentioned the trail up the shore is a work in progress that has a lot of promise and some fine hills! Riding in town is no problem and one your on top, its fairly flat.
