Race Legal: track bike with front break and coaster brake?

So...I have a track bike.

-I would like to make use of said track bike on flat, sketchy crit courses.

-I have spare brake levers, brakes, and handlebars.

-The fork on said track bike accepts a bolt with which to attach a set of brakes.

-I also have a coaster brake rear wheel.

-Would it be race legal (not sure if it has to be a canti/dual pivot/single pivot/etc) to race with a front brake, rear coaster brake single speed setup on the ROAD?

Gearing would be 53x16 or thereabouts, but not that that matters...

Reading the OP's post, he wouldn't be running it fixed, and he'd have a brake. So yes, I'm pretty sure it would be legal.

It would be a bad idea in addition any specifically prohibitive rules. Having a front brake and a rear coaster brake should satisfy rule 1K4 (Bicycles must have at least one working brake on each
wheel). The rule does not specify types of brakes.

However, only having one gear choice would severely limit your ability to conserve energy throughout the race. On the other hand, you asked about legality and I don't see why your set up wouldn't be legal- of course the on-site official might disagree.

For my own curiosity, what type of wheel do you have with a coaster brake that will work on a track bike. Most coaster brake wheels are not road style as far as I have seen.

Not really concerned about conserving energy in some of these races. I want to get out and kill the field.

As far as the coaster brake is concerned...they use them every year at the Little 500 at Indiana University. On track bikes. I don't think it will be a problem.

Don't know where you're looking, but the online rulebook has this
1J3. (b) For road races, only a bicycle with a freewheel and one working brake on each wheel shall be used, except as allowed elsewhere in these rules.
