Road Bike Racing - Anyone going to the 10AM Rock Creek Park ride tomorrow?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
...I'll be the guy in severe pain getting dropped. Look for me! ;)
I've decided I need to add more hard group rides to my training, and nobody better than the local 3's and up to lay down some pain for me.

I wish. Whats the story for Sunday?
Sunday's going to be a big turnout for the shop ride. Capitol Hill Bikes is having this big expo event to raise cash for the WABA DC Online Bike Map project, so there are lots of events planned and the shop ride is supposed to be part of that. I'm guessing it'll break up into Arlington and Bethesda groups too, but who knows. Hopefully the monsoons will stay away.

are you riding monsoon or not?

Yeah, I'll be there. I promised I'd represent. I'll at least be there at 9 no matter what, and if it's really horrible and nobody wants to ride I might bail, but I'll definitely be there.

hmmmmmmm its going to be a tough call for me. With paris - roubaix being on sitting on the trainer AGAIN wouldnt be sooo bad. I think a lot of it will depend on what I do on the trainer tonight. im sick of this weather though.
Are you going to rock creek today?
Yeah, I think I will. Depending on who shows up I may end up dropped, but either way it should be good training and a chance to add some duration to my training before Poolesville.
I'm a 7 am guy myself, ~50 mi, home by 10:30 a.m., as intense as any race. Hard to beat, only downside is I have to drive to the start/finish of it.

are there any rides like that on Sunday? being home before noon would be awesome.
Riskus, you should head out to the 8:30 ride from the Bicycle Place. It's fast, lots of teams represented, and the upper-cat guys are nice enough to stop and let you regroup so they can thrash you again.
Might have to try the 7AM ride. The 10 AM was a slightly smaller group, still with some higher-cat folks (one of our Cat 1's showed up, for example), but I thought the 10AM was the harder ride.
What sucked was that I flatted just as the hammer was getting dropped, and I was actually hanging with the lead group!  There was no hope of chasing down the group solo, so I just made a good hard solo ride out of it and found a little group that had splintered off.
Sucked, but still got a good ride in.

the bicycle place is just a little too far away for me to ride to and then go on a hammerfest but maybe one day. Its a sunday ride though?

Yeah. Squadra Coppi's ride is sunday AM too... 8:30 at the Java Shack in Arlington. I might head out for that one sometime because I keep hearing great things about it and the Coppi guys are great to ride/race with.

I am going to check that ride out soon too. They have thier camp thing this weekend so I dont think there are going to be many guys around for that ride tomorrow. In any case it looks like Tstorms tomorrow morning so I am already mentally preparing for a long trainer workout.

Just got back from Coppi training camp. I had to come back today but we got some good hilly riding in. 52 miles in the Shenandoahs yesterday. I blew up 38 miles in at the top of a 1400 foot climb (not so big I know). I felt like a was going to throw up so I stopped for a minute. Stopping made the nausea worse, as it happens. Lesson learned. Someone told me the urge to barf comes from lactic acid and if you stop your body processes it slower. So better to keep moving at a slower pace.
The Coppis are a nice bunch of people. I am the newest/slowest rider on the team (on the men's side). Gotta work harder.
Riskus you should come out next Sunday....
PM me if interested.

Any rides on the weekends in the afternoon?
It's a long shot, I know, but I work until 2:30pm-ish on weekends!

It's a funny thing. There are no or almost no rides late in the day. Even Potomac Pedalers Toruing Club, which has gazillions of different rides never really starts any rides after 11.
You would think that there would be enough people to do some group rides on weekend afternoons. I often ride at that time, because of kids stuff or late nights before, but I always ride alone if I go out in the afternoon.
