Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Bicycle! A Repair and Maintenance Manifesto

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just thought I'd post a little review for a new bike maintenance book I came across. We just got this book by Sam Tracy in at the bookstore I work at, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! While it's a little light on illustrations for some of the repairs he describes, the book is packed with little tips that I found really helpful. e.g. his description for changing tires was really helpful in mounting some stubborn rubino pros. Also he rides fixed and has a really good intro to fixed and winter riding (just to connect it to the forum ;-). All in all I'd have to say it would make the perfect addition to those who already have something like Zinn's repair book and want a little more day to day how-to info.

I read this book while I worked at borders. It honestly didn't contain enough cool stuff to be a cool book, or enough technical stuff to be a technical book.
I'd just go for the two extremes and get Bike Cult and Zinn's Guide to Road Bike Maintenance.

Yeah I just liked the info at the back really. Some useful info for someone interested in going fixed but nothing Sheldon hasn't covered really
haven't seen the bike cult book. can you post a link? I'm always trying to get more cool bike related stuff in the store ;-)
Also does anyone know Sam Tracy? From his bio it seemed like he might have a few connections to the board.
Bike Cult looks cool, but any idea where you can get it for less than 60 bucks?

My Aunt got that for my B-day last year. It's really light on maintenance info, heavy on style. Many other books out there that are way more informative.
How To Rock and Roll : A City Rider's Repair Manual by Sam Tracy, Atomic Zombie's Bicycle Builder's Bonanza and The Bicycle Wheel by Jobst Brandt are helluva lot more interesting.

i don't support anything that even comnes remotely close to being communism related, or even alludes to communism, which this book obviously does.

Yeah! pinkos! Goldener will never have a red star next to his name!!!
Seems like everyone wants to hate on terrorists now. It's good we can still hate on the reds.
