Utility Cycling - Got a trailer...

And I have to say it's about the best $100 I've EVER spent.

It's one of those big, heavy, kinda nerdy-looking ones made for towing toddlers around, but I find it extremely useful anyway. One of my main problems as far as not using a car is being able to get not only myself from a to b, but cargo as well.

If anyone is thinking about getting a trailer here, I just want to say DO IT! :D

I bought one yesterday. A $50 Instep. There's an awful lot of plastic on it and I am still puzzling over the weird hitch, but I think I can make it work for grocery hauling.

What brand was your's? There was a recent thread where a guy took off much of the cloth and put a plywood floor in it. Looked kind of cool. http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=285912

I just bought a yak, best 260 ever spent. I absolutely love it! I have it paired up with a dew deluxe, and it's the perfect combo. I've probably put 250 miles + since buying it a week ago. Good luck with your unit...:beer:

I really like my BOB. But I just found out that the new rack I have due to getting disc brakes can't be used when the BOB is attached because the skewer and the bottom of the rack where it attaches to the frame are in the way of one another.

Yeah I could see how that could be a problem, with that left side coming down you can't get your bob to fit. Do you need both? You might have to choose one or the other...

I'm just using the rack unless I have a whole lot of stuff to carry, then I take off the rack and attach the BOB trailer.

One reason I don't have a trailer is that I can't justify the expense of something I would use so rarely. Now I see that sharing with other cyclists is the answer to this problem. Thanks for the inspiration, Donna! :)

I broke my trailer out of storage last night. Other than a flat, it stored well. Since my kids were in bed, I threw my big stinky hockey bag in for weight and rode up and down the street a few times. I'm looking to take it on a 100 mile RT overnighter in a few weeks. I'm also saving up for a Burley Nomad. I haven't tried panniers yet, but my bike rack options are pretty limited because of the FS and no eyelets.

Sounds like the kind of thing craigslist.org would add a section for if enough people asked.

Mine was cheap because I made it out of a piece of electrical conduit, some bolts, and a 45-gal. plastic tote. And I use it fairly often because i made it a walk-or-bike trailer.
