Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Good idea, Jesse M. If more people came by, this place might actually be active, or something. ;)
I've been working on staying seated while climbing, but still have a long way to go. :o The power disparity in favor of standing seems to be worth the time penalty. Guess I've got to get stronger somehow.

If I can manage it I'm going to see about getting BikeWNC to lead another ride in July. We only need to find one other person to equal this one.
Hey Velo Vol - I might be able to make a trip up there in July...my son will be away on a rafting trip with JROTC 7/16-7/18 and then a Leadership Academy from 7/22-7/27...hubby has talked about going to the mtns during the Leadership thing, so maybe I could bring my bike along and do a ride with ya'll...or maybe not since it's going to be mid week...oh well....

My schedule in the summer centers around my daughter and her care. She has gymnastics on Tuesday and Thursday from 8am to 1pm (but I ride during that time). We also try to go for a hike and a river trip once a week too. The good news is that by then grandma should be living next door so I will have a sitter if needed.
My July is pretty open at this point but August is already booked with trips to Colorado and Lake Placid.
Do you know what river your son will be rafting?

no...don't know yet where they are rafting...probably won't know for a few more weeks...i don't see why i couldn't get away for one day and ride tho...would need to make sure that hubby has something to do...hiking or the like most likely...
of course, the riding day will hinge on the fact that i'm gonna have to make sure it's ok with him...we (he does, not i :)) have issues with the time i spend riding, so i don't want to "stir the pot" and then not have an enjoyable rest of the week. seems like tho, he knows if he gives me (right now) 2-3 hours of bike time, that i'm happy for the remainder of the day....anyways, got a little time to figure something out and make some riding plans.

Too much riding time? What's that?
What's the status of your swelling/knee issue?

When's MErider gonna be in the area? Would be nice to try to plan something around that time. For those who can't make it, we could still do another ride of us locals later. Thoughts?

From what I know, it will be in early July. Don't know if she plans to make it this far East though. She will be in the Nashville area for sure.

That's what I thought, but then see this (http://www.bikeforums.net/showpost.php?p=4482721&postcount=102) and this (http://www.bikeforums.net/showpost.php?p=4484792&postcount=161) from yesterday. Maybe she doesn't understand where you live?

Well, i could see why she would want to ride with me, I mean I'm all that and more. :roflmao:
But I don't think she intended to make it over this way. I did suggest it might be possible for me to make it over that way. It all depends on when, where and if I have a sitter for the day. I also mentioned that if I did get over there that she could use my wife's bike for the day if she needed to. Again all that is contingent on a lot of things happening just right. Can't make any promises at this time.

seems the swelling was due to the injury and not getting my foot up higher than my heart. when we got to the beach friday evening, i put my foot up on the back of the couch for 2.5-3hr and at the end of that time, the swelling was 75% gone. it's back to normal now.
my son had to visit the dr (same as mine) this afternoon for a follow up and i asked when i could ride again...he proceeded to mash on the area below my knee where the tendon attaches to the muscle and i'm like <ok, you can stop anytime cause, umm, yea, ok, it still hurts>. i was gonna attempt a 30mi ride this evening, but he nixed that...said i could start riding again when it doesn't hurt like it did this afternoon...i'm thinking next week maybe.
i might try a group ride on saturday; we have a SAG for the ride, so i could bail at any point....or, maybe not be so impatient and go one more week....i so want to ride! not riding for almost 2wks is killing me now...
anyways.....

Hmmm, interesting diagnosing technique--a mashing on the knee. Guess I could have saved myself a bunch of money by buying a hammer instead of paying the rheumatologist.
Sorry you've been out of action for so long.

didn't cost me nuttin :D asked him after he got done with my son...
yea, he mashes along the tendon and the attaching points to muscle...i did the same thing to the other side and it almost hurts the same...maybe i'm just being paranoid...
