Watched it this afternoon and the winner is??????

just so I don't ruin it for you.

Watch this every year and is one race that is worth watching on TV instead of being there and just seeing one section of the race.

Paris Roubaix my favorite race. I dearly wanted to watch it, but I'm happier that I went to a hard-core spin class instead. I know it was a good workout, because I got my heart rate to 181 and my head almost exploded.

They hate it when that happens.

Clean up on aisle ten!

Actually, I ate breakfast, drank about a pot of coffee, and then moved on to brunch about the time the race ended. :D

I got home from my MTB race just in time to watch it. Those cobblestones make the rocks and roots on the XC course seem like smooth road.

Theses are not just cobblestones- They are Flandres cobblestones. Theye are terrible in a car let alone a bike. BTW. Try those rocks & roots when you go up a class on the 3rd lap. Then you start to realise what Cobblestones are like.

As to Trsnrtr---Thats the way to go- One of the best races possible on TV and brekkie turning to Brunch. How many miles did you have to do to work it off?

I watched that on my dvr last night. That hurt just watching them on those cobblestones! I just can't imagine riding that, especially at race speed.

That was probably one of the many that the riders knocked out of the ground last year- with their chins.

Memory not quite right and no race report to hand but the winner had an average speed in excess of my maximum speed on the flat- ever, and his race distance was more than I have ridden in a day. And To think that I thought you were mad Jet to do a 20K. Still we all have to start somewhere- so if you fancy a massage later in the year- there is a Ride for Club racers/ riders/ randoneurs that does the same route.

O'Grady's winning average was 41.8km/h, or just about 26mph. Pretty amazing when you factor in the conditions. Hell, I'd be elated to do that on a flat route :)

Here are some great pics of the cobbles in the "Hell of the North.

Man those closeup shots of the stones are gnarly.

How long is the stretch of that stuff they race on???

Just found this on a news site:

"As if racing over 28 cobblestone sections totalling 52.7km of the race's 259km wasn't hard enough, the hot temperatures and clouds of dust, which are likely to rise up from the dry cobblestones as the 200-strong peloton and their teams cars pass, will present another challenge."

Looking at http://www.pezcyclingnews.com/?pg=fullstory&id=4839&status=True It is not the cobbles that are the problem- it is the gaps in between. And as I said- These are Flanders cobblestones. Nothing like the smooth granite sets that we have in some of the cities over here.

Paris to Roubaix is my favorite race. Wish Hincapie was sound this year. But for a handlebar stem, he might have done it last year. That's racing!

But this year's winner is worthy!

I'll try to remember the above pave photos next time I whine about chip seal roads in my area.
