I'm In Fo Sho! Hope I'm ready! I've upped my usual 42 mile SART rides to 52 mile SART rides, hope it helps:D
Who else is In? Only 3 weeks.
I'm in. Hope to earn the jersey this time.

You did not hear that from me! I suffered a lot more on BA, but I was sick to my stomach. BA has that long, relentless climb up to 8400' with no chance to rest.

I'll be there trying to erase my shame from MC.

Never under estimate anything :) It can come back to bite you.
Your strong and will do well. Don't let your mind start playing with you though.

Yea, I just looked at the elevation profile... I'm not sure why people where saying that. Actually, I know why at least one of those people was wrong -- she was basing it on the fact that the times were typically an hour faster. Well, that's only because they stop the clock at the summit.
I'll be there... so I guess that I will start slacking off on my training now...

That seemed to be the question of the day yesterday on MC...
"hey...what's this like compared to BA?"
They're just two totally different climbing rides. Long and sustained vs. short and steep. If I recall correctly, the steepest section is on Oak Glen and it tops out at 11%, so nothing like the pitches that you see on Mulholland Challenge. The climb to Angelus Oaks is long, but don't waste much time at the rest stop there because after a small section of climbing you get to descend before you start climbing to Onyx Summit, so there's a chance to recover ON THE BIKE! On the BA Preview I wasted 20 minutes there because I was cramping prior to reaching Angelus Oaks. Had I known that there was going to be a significant amount of descending (definitely enough to recover) I would have been in and out of there more quickly.
All that said...I'll be there for BA on the 5th, I was on the waiting list and they let me register. Also still planning to do the workers ride this weekend.

I'm signed up, so I hope to do it. The only possible problem is that it's right before our Big Sur Spectacular (http://www.udctours.com/bike-tours/california/bigsurpacificcoast/introduction.html) trip.
Sure hope I can make it. Breathless is a lot more fun than Mulholland, to me at least. I like long climbs. Mulholland's prettier, though.

Hi Beanz,
Good luck on Breathless Agony! I've ridden it the last two years, but not this time. I'm sure you'll suffer a bit, but overall you'll be fine and finish well under the time limit. No worries!

+ 1 on BA being a little easier than MC. “Easier” is probably not the right word, but I will take long gradual climbs over the steep sections (Decker!) any day.
My suggestion for anyone that has not ridden this route before is to take it easy going up Oak Glen. As Brandy mentions, this is a little steep and you want to make sure you have enough in the tank to make the 30 mile climb up to Onix summit!

Is everbody ready for the ride???
I just checked weather.com, looks like it will be a decent day, no rain, cooler temperatures than this past weekend. The only negative is they are forcasting wind out of the west. That's okady, just as long as its not a headwind.

The forecast calls for 22 mph winds:
Redlands (start):

Forest Falls (near finish):

At least it will be cool on Saturday. Could make for some bad cross winds during the descent – be careful.

I hope I'm ready. Didn't get to ride this last weekend. Traveled to AZ to visit the my daughter and grandkids. Bummed I didn't get another long climing ride in, but Gina says may do me good. Recovery time. I'll be doing a few easy short rides this week.
I don't think anything will help me now anyways. Either I'm ready or I'm not!:D
Winds will suck though. I did a couple of miles up Mt Baldy Rd into a big wind a while back. I thought it was going to kill me!:(

Angelus Oaks might be a better indicator? One source shows wind in AO around 12, another closer to the 22 you indicate. WSW means it won't be a headwind for most of the ride, no? Regardless, you're right about the descent... any wind will make that sketchy.

I was planning on riding Wed, then 2 days off before BA. But I rode both mon and tue, so I'm taking tomorrow off. Would you recommend an easy recovery type ride on Thu, or on Fri?
Except for the wind, I'm pretty excited for Saturday.

My 2 cents- Your training is done- you may want to do a couple of easy rides Thursday and/or Friday- just keep it at talking pace.
Doghair and I are doing a climbing century (or close) on Thursday, and I am going to still be prepared for Saturday...
I'll have been off the bike for two weeks. Hopefully, I'll still be able to ride on Saturday. Last year, I tried BA having been off the bike for a month. That ride didn't go so well.

I usually take Thursday off and do a easy paced ride on Friday before a Saturday event. Need to keep the legs limber.

tapering my time spent at home if front of a TV... :D

Weather looking good. Today the forecast changed from 22mph on Saturday to 13mph (weather.com) or 10mph (weatherunderground).

Your daily weather update is not good. Not only has the wind returned to Saturday's forecast, but it's stronger than ever: 29mph! And it has even changed direction... instead of being from the WNW (which may have actually been at our backs in some stretches, now it's from due North (smack in our faces on the approach to Angelus Oaks).

I like a headwind when I climb, it keeps me cool.
5-10 MPH headwind is plenty to keep me cool. 29 MPH would be really annoying.
