Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - anybody run Aerospoke wheels on the street?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

does anyone ride them on the track?
why? again are you joking or posting this just to troll or bait people?
they're heavy, not aero, obsolete technology, useless, etc
same reasons why they shouldn't be ridden on the street and are useless for anything but fashion..

i heard they're really strong for riding in the street. someone had them run over and they were still very usable. but don't take my word for it. but how could they be useless else wise. i hear they can make you a stronger rider , good for training but no1 races so why? well i would use it for a better workout

there not exactly carbon fiber like the HED 3 are. they have velocity aerohead rims attatched to them. http://aerospoke.com/tech_info.php

Go to Herne Hill any Monday or Wednesday night and you'll see an Aerospoke being raced on the track. As I mentioned before, they're more aero than a Corima 4 spoke. Only problem is they take an age to wind up.

hmmmm.
cons: heavy.
pros: swank. just askin for paint.
my thoughts....
mavic IO. just goregous. and only 3 g's.
would a front aero wheel slice wind more efficiently than one placed in the rear?
resolutely maybe?
i guess this is the question...

OMFG. I decided 'why not read part of the aerospoke plug'.
"Because the Aerospoke wheel is a composite, narrow, aerodynamic wheel, it has some lateral flex. This flex is inherent and necessary in this type of wheel. If the wheel did not have some flex, it would be too brittle. Our proprietary composite formulation provides for maximum lateral stiffness, without unwanted brittleness. It is completely normal to have to open your brake pads slightly to accommodate."
"The same principles apply to a "spongy" ultra-light-weight wheel. Not only can it be aerodynamically inferior, with its wider frontal area, and a bunch of spokes stirring up the wind like an eggbeater in batter, but the "sponge-like" nature of the wheel can rob you of the energy that you are trying so hard to use for the sake of motion. Energy is being stolen away from you with each little flex of a flimsy wire spoke."
Whoever invented Aerospokes must be rolling in his money laughing.
As well as a geared roadbike and a fixie, I also ride BMX - a 24" SE Racing Floval Flyer, with 7 spoke Skyway Tuffs. Yes blud, I is a bad mo fo. Anyway, these are the heaviest wheels of all time, they may as well be made of lead. But they take a beating and spin like a one-legged synchronised swimmer. Plus they look bare nang, innit bruv.
The moral of the story? If you like the look of them, get them. Try them, and if you find them too heavy, you can be sure there'll be another sucka along in a minute to take them off your hands. Maybe it'll be me, I wouldn't mind pimpin up my Chas Roberts track bike... (As if metallic purple rims weren't enough already...)

The road was made for aerospokes!
And skinny guys wearing girl pants!
aerospokes look especially bad when people have only one. they also look bad when people have two but that's just my opinion.
