i am 15 and a half and i am looking to start biking. i want to get into biking. and by the end of the summer (july 25) i am hoping to reach my goal of riding to new york. i live in new hampshire (243.74 mile trip)
so i have many questions being so new to the sport.
1) first off i need a decent bike between $300 and $400 used. what are some suggested brands and other specifications i should get for a long distance bike
2) what kind of training regiment should i be on if i want to be able to complete the journey by july (25)
3) what would a typical biker bring on a trip such as this one??
4) any other suggestions??

thank you for taking the time to read this and any help would be awesome.

I think a few points you should clarify:

Are you planning to do the ride in one day, two days, three, four?
How many others will be riding with you?
Will you have a support vehicle (car) following?
Will you be camping out?

Just so we can advise what to bring and what sort of training you will need.

certainly
we are aiming to get the trip done in 4 days.
there will be 1 other person coming with me
we are not going to have a support vehicle folloring. but we will have cell phones in case of emergency
and yes we plan on camping out.

Ok, good to know. I think you'll get better feedback if you post this question in the Road Cycling section.

Things to do:

Get maps and start researching your route. Libraries and bike organizations can help.
Visit a bike shop. They can give you advice on good roads and stuff.

Before you set out, you should do an overnight "test" tour with everything you're taking.

I wouldn't worry too much. You'll get there.
