Well she is just about done. My little dj/ds rig. All I have left to do is put the tensioner on and the chain. For a total cost of 200 bucks she aint a bad little bike.
Have a look-see ;

Oh yeah, and for you SS guys, check out the rear hub. A WOOdman ss hub with a 10mm bolt on axle.

Total cost of what you actually had to buy right? You must have had a bunch of those parts already. Its sweet....I wish I had enough money to build a DJ bike.

Wow...nice rig. If I ever get a dually I will convert this current bike to an ss for djing :)
I guess the Cowan fell through?
"dj/ds rig." "SS"
Two terms I'm not familiar with... Could dirt jumping be one of them?
-Joe
I think SS means single speed. Is that frame intended for mtb's?

Not on a pure djer. If you plan on doing xups and bar spins it makes it difficult :)...

Just noticed the rear brake...hmmmm nm previous statement :)...It would still be easier for x-ups .. no bar spins though.

Let's see,
Wait, Mael & troie both answered that one.
Mael, the Cowen is just a Chute/Scrap with a custom paint job. I got the Stinky Primo insted.
Jim and Mael, when jumping as Mael said there is no need for a front brake same for DS. And yes, you can still do bar spins even with the cable. I added an extra 8" or so to the lenght of the line so it just twists around the head tube. You just need to remember to spin the bars in the opposite direction the next time.
Total cost included parts I already had. Other wise she would have cost me just over $800.
Troie, yes. The frame is intended for mtb's but Jamis claims it is their dj bike that can also be used for the trails.
DiL, I will find out today when we weigh her but it should be somewhere around 15lbs.

That's pretty sweet.
Is the Woodman hub new? Is that an Atom Lab rim or?
What kind of tensioner are you gonna use? Is it the type that mounts to your derailleur hanger? If not, are you gonna get creative with the grinder to cut off the extra part of the hanger?

The rear wheel is built with the Woodman ss hub and laced to an AtomLab AirCorps rim with 14g spokes.
As for a tensioner I am going to use one made by AC. It mounts to the hanger and is adjustable.

Kinda figured but couldn't be 100% sure by the pic

I'm not asking this to be a dick, I'm genuinely curious. Why would you want a bike like that in single speed? Also, what is special about the hub? Is it that large just so it can take abuse?
Sorry, I know..newbie questions :).

For dirt jumping I never switch gears, it is all about the flow and momentum. I will also be using it at the local BMX track witch I also stay in one gear. Same goes for when we ride street.
It is a large hub because it nees to handle the forces placed on it from the disc brake and also the pounding it will take when jumping (if there is no tranny).
Also, unlike most single speeds it uses a freewheel just like a mtb hub so you do not need a separate freewheel, only a sproket which will give you a broader range of ratios to use depending on what you are doing.

What? You mean like pretend I am riding it:p ?
Not on a half pipe or 1/4 pipe but on a driveway or ramp I could.

:D..
If that freehub the kind that doesn't force your foot to move backwards when you are riding fakie. :)

 Isn't that light for a DJ rig? A P.2 weighs in around 35ish!

Is it single speed (no cassette, der's, shifters, freewheel of massive size, no multiple chin ring front etc....think of the weight just saved with that :)). Missing all of those shifters and the entire front brake saves a lot of weight. Light frame with light wheels and a smooth riders on a single speed makes massive difference :)

Sorry, DBD. That bike simply cannot weigh 15 lbs. Lance's climbing bike is 15 and change!
Think about it...4-5 pound frame, 4-5 pound fork. 1.5 pounds for crank, those maxxis tires are probably in the 2 pound range each, and handle bars, stems, seat, and seatpost are probably around another pound and a half. thats 17 right there...And thats being quite liberal, not even mentioning the brake...
Nice bike though, I would mind having a bike like that...a pure basher...

That makes perfect sense *smacks forehead*
edit: sense sense?
dbd - maybe I missed something here. That saddle looks a little low. Looking at it something tells me you are probably 6' 10" tall but only have legs 15" long, which puts you in the travelling circus freak-act league. You don't jump over elephants and clowns do you?:D

Damn! you found out;)
A lower seat allows for clearance of the sadle when jumping so you do not get hung up on it. Also, you should not be sitting when in the air anyways.:p

Okay, okay. You got me there. Just got her off the scale and she weighs in at 18 and change.
I guess once I get the tensioner and chain on it will be 19 or 20lbs.

still, about the weight of my roadie...nice...
Was that the frame they had at jensonUSA for $95 a while back? I'm thinking of buying a frame similar and building it up. I think it might be fun.
