Sunday April 15th: Click here (http://www.headfirstperformance.com/Max%20Performance/Series.htm) Race #3. This was a modified sprint distance used as a warm-up for the upcoming Tri season.
400m swim (indoors), 6mile bike, 2 mile run
Around 40 degrees, Mist, 20+mph Wind. Go to check in and was told the event was going to be swim last because of the chilly weather. So the race was run, bike, swim which I was ready for, but did not realize how bad the short swim would be. Made it through the run fairly quick, got to T1 and besides being cold got the helmet, shoes, sunglasses (not needed for sun but for the wind in the eyes) grabbed the bike and was out feeling good about my first transition. Bike went pretty well, out was a head wind and much slower than I would have wanted but I passed several on this potion. After the turn the wind at my back, got 30+mph on some of the down hills and made up some time. By then everyone was pretty spread out over the last part of the bike course so I did not pass anyone else untill the swim. Got back to T2 no problems and off to the swim, going from 40 and windy to an indoor heated pool at 87 degrees was difficult on the num fingers and toes. Took 50m or so just to get used to the temp. change, which was the hardest part of the whole race. Once getting passed the first 100m the swim went really quick touched the wall for 38th overall. (about 70 people in the race). My goal was to go between 45-48 mins..... finished right at 50mins. Didn't hit my goal but was pleases with my first race. Next race is a 'true' sprint distance and I am looking forward to it.
